Let the Long Night End
Part V
It Had to Be You

It had to be you, it had to be you
I wandered around and finally found, that somebody who
Could make me be true
Could make me feel blue
And even be glad just to be sad, thinking of you.

“When he had made two snips, he saw the Little Red Riding Hood shining, and then he made two snips more, and the little girl sprang out, crying, ‘Ah, how frightened I have been. How dark it was inside the wolf.’” — Red Riding Hood.

Let the Long Night End
Part IV
Chasing Shadows

Chasing shadows
Chasing love dreams in vain
While my heart keeps on singing
Just a lonely refrain.

“Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay. To mould me Man, did I solicit thee. From darkness to promote me?” —Paradise Lost, X, 743-45.

Let the Long Night End
Part III
Strangers in the Night

Strangers in the night,
Exchanging glances
Wondering in the night;
What were the chances?

“Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ So he stretched it out, and it was restored.” – The Bible, Mark 3:5

Let the Long Night End
Part II
I’ve Got You Under My Skin

I’ve got you under my skin
I’ve got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart
That you’re really a part of me
I’ve got you under my skin.

Let the Long Night End
Part I
God Only Knows

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I’ll make you so sure about it
‘Cause God only knows what I’d be without you

PART TEN

Chapter 18: Do-Re-Mi

For days after seeing the movie, Eli drives everybody crazy singing the Do-Re-Mi song, although she doesn't understand all of the words, such as how dough can be a female dear and what jammin' bread is. After Sassa stops laughing, she buys a cassette of the soundtrack so she can work with Eli on the lyrics.

Soon the three of them are singing a few of their favorite songs, giving Sassa another idea for enhancing their musical ability as well as broadening their musical world.

PART NINE

Chapter 16: What Could Go Wrong

Murder in the Park

Oskar and Eli are practicing available-light photography on the muted colors in the Old Cemetery Park. When two muggers spot children with expensive cameras on tripods, all they see is an easy score. Approaching from behind, they don't recognize the pale children until they turn in unison to face the men.

The children smile.

Two days pass before a groundskeeper discovers the muggers' bodies under snow-covered shrubbery.
