Re: Is the appeal of LTROI gender specific?

Decltype, actually she said about a 7, but I think she was just trying to protect my feelings. :)

Vox, but how do you explain that most of them happen to be women over 45?

Re: Is the appeal of LTROI gender specific?

Yes, the demographic breakdown on IMDb shows a clear trend to that effect. 43% of women aged 45+ gave it a "1" out of 10. Vote stacking, anyone? The women past 45 usually give low ratings to many poetic (or just universally acclaimed as good) movies. Check out Bergman's movies, for example. My moth...

Re: Favorite Passage from Novel

Hakan did not choose his desires, but he had a choice in what to do about them. If he's Eli's slave, he chose to become Eli's slave. I'm not saying his alternatives were easy or palatable, merely that they existed. While evolutionary considerations explain the overall trends of humanity's behaviour...

Re: "New Moon" Soundtrack Artist on LTROI and LMI

The first question mark is Ingmar Bergman. I can't really tell what's the second one, but I think I hear a Leandersson :D

That is one peculiar fan of Bergman and LtROI. Contrasting. MTV style.

Re: Is Eli "immoral"?

Since all animals feed on other living beings, I cannot consider Eli immoral. And yes, she was forced into it, there was no choice. We start talking about immorality when we think of ourselves as superior beings, the only species that needs no excuse for what it does, but can do anything to other sp...

Re: Favorite Passage from Novel

It was not Discovery Channel who did it, but the scientists who tried to find reasonable, realistic, materialistic explanations for the metaphysical. If you treat love like an entity, you have to consider it as something immaterial that, in some mysterious way, drives our material bodies. If you tre...

Re: No, I just want to be with you

Discovery Science has a very nice motto: Question everything! If you are satisfied with "romantic love," "curiosity," and so on, then I can't do anything about it. For me, those are not intrinsic things, they must have other purposes. It would be rather foolish to go on trying to make you see things...
