Re: Hakan Changes His Mind When He Kills Himself

I agree, but it's not so much Eli denying what she is, but simply that she isn't at all like the other JAL-form vampires presented in the novel. (granted this is the film thread) She does come across in some senses as aged-wearied, but without the cynicism and nihilism that is so obvious in the adu...

Re: Scandinavian Vampire Lore

The only twist in the vampire lore was the extra brain thing on the heart, which to me was well.........weak..... and took the mystical mystery out of her affliction and caused me to say out loud "AWWW Come on!!!!!" As far as I understand it, the main reason for this second brain was that JAL himse...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

[/quote]What I saw was empty ceremony - she says grace before meals, has a portrait of Jesus, etc, all of which basically cost her nothing. They require no real effort or sacrifice, and above all they don't require her to leave her comfort zone. They're not outward manifestations of inner conviction...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

As far as a lease and all that she could have hired a real estate agent over the phone " Hello', Find me a place for $1000 a month and when you do mail the lease to Abby, c/o General Delivery, Los Alamos Post Office NM, when I get it I'll sign and put payment in it plus your fee. Thank you" Fairly ...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

Thomas was a minor player in the Abby Owen story, so much so he disappeared by act 2. Abby could have moved in with out him at the start of the movie and it would have flowed along just as well as it did. What part of Thomas role affects the movie so much that he had to be there? Food? Abby was abl...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

Abby could have moved in with out him at the start of the movie and it would have flowed along just as well as it did. Very possibly, but there are logistical concerns. Even if she's fully a woman wearing a child's body, her appearance would make it very difficult to sign leases or rental agreement...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

Well, any way you look at it, Owen's mom is hanging on by her fingernails, and under the circumstances Owen is pretty much fending for himself. Not an ideal situation in anyone's book, but certainly not unheard of, either. We don't know why the marriage fell apart, but in times of distress, many tu...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

So out of the 700 reviews on IMDb you cherry pick what 10....and who wrote the review a critic or just a viewer like yourself? One of your review even goes on to point out the Owens mother was Catholic.....now where did this critic you highly regard pull that out of his butt? Those reviews are wort...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

I suspect at least another couple of people who are full of " bombast" and "tripe" could chime in with carefully considered and powerfully written arguments that Thomas was critical to the story's flow within the reality of the story and to how the story presents subjectively. Without wanting to ma...

Re: Blackeberg vs. Los Alamos

Bluntly put, she gives me the impression of being a welfare drunk with a picture of a religious icon on her wall. It's a familiar image; such people (not just women) are also altogether too common in the US. If LMI is all about Owen and Abby, with neither of them giving much thought to anybody or a...
