Re: LDRKI ineligible for an Academy Award this year
This is so ridiculous, because the movie should receive more praise and indeed get a chance at the big price. I guess it'll continue to be a great underground movie that is not known to the bigger masses. Sadly.

Re: UK DVD Commentary
On a side note, the prick Aflredson mentions means dot or period if you translate it to English. From IMDB, I forgot which poster mentions this is a common mistake of Swedes. It is not supposed to be offensive which explains why JAL chuckles when TA says prick . I believe he is describing a yellow ...

Re: Things People Were Saying, Not Translated...
Yeah, read wolf's transcript, it might clear up some things. I can also add: Was anyone able to decipher what people were saying during the following scenes: Hakan lecturing Eli after Jocke's death The guy yelling from upstairs after Lacke's death Thanks It's very tough to hear something, but the wo...

Re: Would you want to be a vampire like Eli?
If I'm not completely mistaken and mix this up with something else... In the novel, Eli tells Oskar (or thinks?) that he's the first friend Eli's had for 200 years. 200 years of killing people and having no real friends to talk to. Now that's pretty damn lonely. Let that sink in before making a choi...

Re: Who is singing?
If you watch closely, you can see the cheeks moving and the mouth bulging on the singing bully (the smallest boy). They even zoom in on his face when he starts singing. Why he sings with his mouth closed is up for discussion though. He's a kid and kids do strange things. My best guess is it's a cons...

Re: Why does Oskar take out his hat?
Eli on the other hand took off her outerwear including the hat, gloves and jacket. This hadn't occurred to me before. Why does Eli take off her outer wear? My amateurish guess to this question would be, because it's the most natural choice for her. The outerwear was merely a disguise to blend in wi...

Re: Why does Oskar take out his hat?
There is another scene that bucks the "Oskar acts tough". The basement scene. He keeps his hat on?! Not just kept his hat on but his jacket and gloves. He only takes it off when he wants to cut his hand for the blood pact. Eli on the other hand took off her outerwear including the hat, gloves and j...

Re: Why does Oskar take out his hat?
Speaking of own experience, growing up in the cold northern Sweden (yes, even in one of the towns where some of the filming occured), you didn't wear your cap as a kid if you wanted to be "cool". So, in this case, when Oskar wants to have an attitude, he chooses not to wear his cap to feel tougher. ...

Re: The "gay" father scene
As a small detail about the drinking buddy, Janne... I don't know how much you've discussed him, it's mentioned in detail in the book, but he is also mentioned in the movie when the alcoholics in the restaurant discuss the new man sitting in the corner drinking finishing his milk (Eli's feeder). "He...

Re: The "gay" father scene
(Thanks) Yeah, of course they're embarrassed by Oskar's presence. "Hrrm, shall we?" It's up to Oskar's father, after all, it's his boy who is visiting. It's absolute taboo to drink alcohol in front of children. I don't know about other countries, but it is in Sweden, since when Swedes drink, we usua...
