Re: What kept you so long?
Is the hitchhiker also a vampire but one who has decided to kill other vampires? Or is she an uninfected person who had a vision that set her on the path to becoming a vampire slayer? No need for spoiler protection any longer... The hitch-hiker had been given a call, which she had to follow. I don'...

Re: Theory about the infection
Well, I think it's a matter of preference. When it comes to JAL's sequel stories I prefer to think of them as having a bidirectional relation and as being part of a consistent universe, and if there are inconsistencies I like to look for Watsonian explanations rather than settling for the Doylist "...

Re: Theory about the infection
Well, my opinion is that while the universe of What Kept You So Long? includes the events of LtROI, the opposite is not true. It's a unidirectional relation. Therefore the infection may take a year to fully manifest in What Kept You So Long? , while it takes at most a couple of days in LtROI. On a m...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
On a more serious note, Eli is a survivor and has learned how to be one over a very long span of time, probably with tons of bitter incidents, and Oskar would probably have spent quite a chunk of that time in something of a fugue state dealing with the fact that he'd just nearly lost his life. They...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
On the subject of what the kids did during the missing 16 hours, well... they went on their honeymoon, of course! Hmm, you usually go on your honeymoon after your marriage, don't you? :geek: Their "marriage", as I see it, is the blood exchange ceremony in Karlstad - albeit O&E would probably rather...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
When the two left Blackeberg, Oskar was twelve years old. If he hadn't turned, what do you suppose he might be like when he turns 40, assuming he's stayed with her the whole time? Well, all oldtimers around here know what he would be like. Pity the fan fiction area isn't available for newcomers to ...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
I feel that only a short time would have passed between the pool and the train - they would want to get out of Blackaberry and the bloodbath as soon as possible. So one would think, but... The novel has a couple of timings that sort of sets the scene: The first time Oskar went to the training, he t...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
They certainly couldn't have had a conversation of that sort on the train. Not that I think they did, but they probably could (!). The reason is that some passenger compartments were quite small, for just eight passengers on two facing sofas with four places each. It seems Oskar's seat was in one o...

Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
I'm not sure how I feel about the "conclusion" given to Eli and Oskar. The fact that she turns him so soon after they leave Blackaberry seems a bit strange. Was it not established in the book that Oskar ["wants to be with her but not like her" and Eli seems to understand and respect that. Why would...
