Forty Years in the Wake of Los Alamos: An Interview (Let Me In)
Got another fanfic up, this one also based on the American remake, Let Me In. It's a bit over 3,200 words, is written in a one-sided interview style, and is loosely connected to my other short story collection, A Cold Winter's Night, but not so connected that you can't just read it as a standalone. I tried approaching the swimming pool massacre and the events of Let Me In from the perspective of a police detective who was present during the investigation, as told by him 40 years later.

I enjoyed it. It has a very grounded and realistic feel to it.

I agree. It's also a bit gritty, effectively reflecting the career ups and downs of the veteran police detective being interviewed. The POV has real depth, making it well grounded, as cmfireflies points out.cmfireflies wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 7:53 pmI enjoyed it. It has a very grounded and realistic feel to it.
We never stop reading, although every book comes to an end, just as we never stop living, although death is certain. (Roberto Bolaño)

I'm glad the POV depth worked out - I was trying to balance conveying the character's voice with the pacing of the story, and I'm a bit worried the pacing suffers for it, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! I drew a bit of inspiration from my own (very much non-police) work and from an audiobook on the FBI and serial killers I'm currently listening to.
