Suggestion to those who are REALLY desperate to read this, but are language-handicapped.

1. Buy Lilla Stjärna in Swedish
2. Use character-recognition sofware to make an electronic version.
3. Copy it into the Google translator.
4. Voila! A crude English version of the book.
5. See a shrink. Only someone obsessed, (or infected?) would take the time to do this.

Yes, but you would lose much. More when translating JAL this way than with most other writers.

I think a topic about discussing the best way(s) of ordering books from Sweden would be a neat idea.

A novel would be way too much for me, but I'm planning to get his next short story collection when it comes out, and translate Let the Old Dreams Die myself, word-by-word, if that's what it takes. I want it to be a first hand experience. 8-)
And we danced, on the brink of an unknown future, to an echo from a vanished past.

I'd be tempted to do that myself when the time comes.

JAL's language is seemingly simple, so the first level of interpretation is easy to get. And when you plunge into the universe between the written words, you have the English edition to guide you.
I will certainly get around to getting myself a hardback of the original Swedish, if only because I love the cover pic. It is easily better than any of the other language editions. Can the Ordfront hardback still be purchased any place?

Unfortunately, the Swedish hardback edition is completely sold out and has been so for quite some time. There might be used copies floating around - check tradera.com or antikvariat.net. Unfortunately, I don't have any extra copies to send you, I'm holding on to my copy as if it were gold!

I am happy to tell you that the release event last night here in Stockholm was a huge success - I'll let you know if any footage appears on the net!

Many thanks for this.

The shipping will probably be three times the cost of the book - but still worth it. I hope the seller and I can find a good way for me to get payment to him.

Too bad I can't get it signed before it leaves Sweden.

It's quite the little adventure trying to navigate my way to an account on that site using Google Translate.

Ok, just finished it.

It was good. Some moments (Lennart getting back on his wife for being slut :D) were great but none of the characters really interested me except Teresa (before she went total psycho) and Johannes getting killed made me sad for some reason. The fact that there was nothing supernatural about it but just some disturbed girls pissed me off. Eli is a vampire so you can look past the vampire things she does but these girls had no rights to do what they did. Also I would like to know if the wolves killed them at the end. A graphical description of Theres (fucking hate her what a bitch) getting torn apart would've been a satisfying ending. Mostly it left me pissed off both at the girls and the villain getting away easy.

I haven't decided yet. Have to reread parts of it. The novel balances on a razor edge between the supernatural and realism. Which is crucial for the inerpretation.
About Theres: Wait a minute - this is not an easy one.
