Because it puzzles me that someone who claims himself infected doesn't feel an urge to learn as much as possible about this story. It occurs to me that you shy away from the novel, since you could easily have found the time to read it (your posting count tells a lot about that). I just wonder why that is.

Talking about me, one reason I might not want to read a book upon which a movie I liked was based, is fear that the book might clash with the movie. Or perhaps that the book might not be very good. Maybe your reason is here, somewhere?

But perhaps the simple explanation is that you are not me. There is no reason. You just don't feel that urge to read the novel, and that's it.
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

Works for me.

Many people prefer to watch the Harry Potter films and not read the books as the story is just so good in the movies that it sums up the book easily. The film adaptations are so good that there is no real need to read the book unless you you have a hunch to. I read the book after I saw the movie because I wanted to see what the movie left out, and what as changed. I completely understand why some would rather just see the film than read the book and see the film. dongregg is certainly infected.

While I'm thinking about this, we should create a definition for infected and put it on the banner at the top of our page. That would be sick.

dongregg just defined the difference between "liked it" and "infected." Thanks for putting it into words.

I love to talk about stuff I like, but don't always want to because I'm afraid of getting red-faced and emotional (which I tend to do over anything I get really into) and whoever I'm talking to will think I'm weird. Particularly likely to happen when I still sniffle every time I listen to the soundtrack. :)

Infection by stealth?.There's a guy at our local club that is always doing things on his laptop. He comes there to use the Wi-Fi.He sits alone and doesn't really interact with anyone. The rumour is that he does assignments for a degree in musicology.Well I was wearing my new LTROI T shirt and casually introduced myself and asked if he was doing musicology. As it turned out he wasn't but loved and knew quiet a bit about music so I suggested he listen to the soundtrack.Turns out he's a photographer. So again I suggested that he watch the film as every scene was like a beautiful photo. The next day I had downloaded the soundtrack for him and he seemed quiet interested.I saw him a cpl of days later but he didn't say anything about it.So either he hasn't listened to it yet or didn't like it or was just too busy at the time to talk to me.I'm hoping the soundtrack and my enthusiasm for the movie and book rubs off on him and he becomes infected. He seems like a nice guy and I would love to be able to talk about it with him (my family roll their eyes or just run when I try to talk about it with them..lol)
Please Oskar.Be me for a little while.

I tried infecting people.. It did not work.

I had this friend, who I thought I had infected. She even went on the forum! Then, a few months, gone. I also showed LTROI to my then 11 yearold niece. I intended to scare her with something that wasn't so brutal, but she ended up loving it and wanted us to play vampire and victim. For many years she would talk about it to me and ask for us to see it together. When she was 14 I gave her the book and told her it was a pretty heavy read. (She loves disturbing movies and probably books, more than I do.) Anyway, she didn't read more than 50 or so pages before she didn't bother. She porbably knew the movie too well, said she had seen it a lot. Like, a lot. So maybe she was infected, but I don't think she is anymore.

Infecting people is really hard. It very rarely happens. And if it does, don't expect it to last for very long. There are many forum members who comes and goes in the matter of months. nd that's ok. Finding someone IRL is even harder, and yeah some say it is kinda weird. Some don't get it.
"Isn't that movie/book really disturbing?"
"Doesn't that book have phedophiles in it?" But most say stuff like:
"Oh yeah i have heard of him (Auther) or I've heard of the movie. Heard good stuff about it.

I have learned to keep my obsessions to myself. Especially with LTROI, it sits so confortably withing myself I don't feel the need to share it with everyone. Like I used to when I was younger.

Hi everyone, longtime infected member here and I just wanted to chime in on this topic. I tried to share my passion for this movie many times with close friends and loved ones to no avail. Most of them liked it, some not so much but all of them just can't understand why I love it so much, some even think my obsession is a bit peculiar and are a little weirded out by it. So I just gave up sharing this movie with anyone years ago. Just not worth it to me as I tend to take it personally.

I will talk about it if a conversation swings into talking about "best films" or some variant of that, but outside of that I do not bring it up. The people I have loaned my DVD to have all liked the film, and thought it was very well made, but didn't latch onto it in an emotional sense. I think you can kind of set yourself up for disappointment with this sort of thing.

UPDATE: Showed my LTROI book to someone and they read my spin off fan fiction "Cold" and she picked up the book at the library! Couldn't believe they had it. I never thought I'd show someone the book before the movie, but I'm wondering if that might be better. Anyone ever had someone read the book before the movie?

And so it grows.

Off topic: Met a Swedish visitor Sunday. Got up my courage and asked, "Hur går det med dig?" She was delighted. She said she's seen Låt den rätte komma in and really enjoyed it. Me, I'm happy I had the guts to engage someone in Swedish. First time. Don't know if I'll ever see her again. She's returning to Gothenburg soon.
