A suggestion for an English LTROI reissue

If the cast were to re-do their audio parts in English [if necessary with pitch processing for Kare], thus obviating the necessity for subtitles, I think it might well clean up in the post-LMI interest spike.

It might also be a priceless opportunity to do a longer edit...and we'd get to hear Lina's voice.

Why would any distributor waste its time with redubbing (even reissuing, or doing anything at all with) a Swedish film when there's an English-language remake?

No sweet smell of good investment around LTROI anymore.

It's not an expensive process compared to filming, I think there's quite a good argument for it financially.

A discerning [if subtitle-phobic] audience that missed it first time round might well buy it too, in the post-LMI publicity.

But hey, I don't know what smart investors think, or even if there's the will to do it. It's just a suggestion.

Hmmm...the original English dub was pretty crass, from what I saw on YT, that could do with fixing too...

That would be a good idea, but there are probably hurdles. Would the orginal cast want to do it? If they did, would they be able to get the required permission to do it? Could JAL and/or TA protest and perhaps block it if they were opposed to it? And has anyone mentioned the possibility of doing this?

I think it might come down to how well LMI does at the box office. If it's a success, what you suggest might happen. Personally, I like the idea. But I'm sure that there would be those opposed.

Money is quite often the determining factor of what does or does not get done in this life.

And the persons doing it should be JAL/TA, really, in this little dream.

Ha! I remember I watched the subs version about 6 times as it was the only one I had (bootleg) and so much of it was wrong.

This would be wonderful, but I would be happy to settle for a remake with Lina's voice restored in Swedish. Look at all the accolades she received for essentially a silent role in this film. The other half of her wonderful acting ability was stripped out. I would like to hear, as well as see, the subtleties and feeling in her voice that she was able to so successfully convey with facial expression and body language.

This dubbing is the single thing that bothers me about this otherwise perfect film.

I would agree. I wasn't happy when I realized that Lina had been voiced-over. She was playing a 12 year old, so she should have a 12 year old's voice. I think the reasoning behind the change was that she is playing a 220 year old character. My objection is that a 12 year old would have a 12 year old voice, regardless of which period of history she lived in.

No, the reasoning was that her voice sounded too much like that of a twelve year old girl. Tomas wanted a deeper, more androgynous sounding voice. After all, even in the film Eli was really a boy.
