Certainly a controversial scene.
I was not referring to flashback scene, although that is part of the larger scene. What I am missing is Eli confronting Oskar about the dark things inside himself, "those were the first words I heard you say." Just a few lines of dialogue.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

I think it would be more interesing if Eli were played by a boy. But, very much of the move is based on that you can juse your own fantacy, en decide what the caracters are and not are. Decise if Eli is a boy or a girl. or decide that Håkan is pedo or not.

So for me, it wouldn't change much. But I like that Lina(a gril) plays Eli. So people can juse their brain. :)

They did try boys - JAL specifically asked them to - however Lina won. Or rather the Lina/Kåre combination won.

It took most of the film until Eli and Oskar got close enough to caress each other (differing from the book), so I recon they just couldn't do that.
Instead they made a confrontation between Håkan and Eli showing how dangerous Eli is, and then we have Eli and Oskar's second meeting where Oskar lends Eli the cube.
For me this scene is a good substitution for the one you mention. We know Eli is dangerous, and can actually hear she is hungry. She approaches Oskar from above and behind, curious but also a bit hostile. so Oskar's kindness by lending her the cube might have saved his life, making this meeting a parallel to the book.
Rather subtle - the film is - but this has become my interpretation of what's happening in this scene. And listen carefully to Johan Söderqvist's awesome soundtrack, how the music is holding it's breath while Eli is making her decision about accepting the cube or not.

I'm under the impression that they only tried girls, though JAL urged them to consider boys as well. They advertised for a boy or a girl in the castings, but presumably they were looking for an Oskar as well, rather than trying out boys for the Eli role.

Ive seen some pictures of Kodi from LMI where he looks alot like Lina did in LTROI. I dont think think it would have been difficult to cast a male as Eli but as stated there was the synergy TA liked with Lina.

If there were to boys casting, I guess it would be a bit weard for the two boys to do what Lina and Kåre did as theyr roles. I wonder if they would have cut some big love scenes out, considering that the boys mabye refused to do what they had been told.

Although, I am happy with the roles. No dought with that. Lina and Kåre are great actors.:)

Not really, as a actor myself I can definetly say that your just a puppet. All you do is agree to do what your told, how your told. If you dont like a scene then its your job as a actor to figure out a way to make yourself like it. Ive been in scenes where ive literaly been told "OK we need you crying your eyes out for the next scene in 3 minutes" and as a actor you have to do it. Actors really have very little power. Besides its about putting on the skin of that character, if you personaly dont agree with something but your character does then when your that character thats the way things are.
