LDRKI ineligible for an Academy Award this year

LDRKI ineligible for an Academy Award this year
The Swedish Film Institute just published a comprehensive article on why they did not consider LDRKI for Sweden's official selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film this year:

I can say "Who the hell cares about this anyway?" with two words:
Slumdog Millionaire.
(According to Firefox's grammar check, it's 3 words actually. Whatever.)

And we danced, on the brink of an unknown future, to an echo from a vanished past.

First, thanks to decltype for providing the info on this debacle. And debacle is just what this is; it's a disgrace. I've ranted on this over in the "Off Topic" section under the topic Sweden's choice for Oscar this year is "Involuntary"! , but I'll repeat my sentiments here.
I don't care whose decision it is that LTROI won't even be considered for an Academy Award, whether it's the Swedish Film Institute or Hollywood. As we at this forum (as well as many others) know full well, if there was ever a film that deserved at least a chance to win an Oscar, it's this one. Having won numerous awards, praise of movie critics everywhere, and a solid cult following, allowing LTROI a shot at an Oscar would seem to be a no-brainer. I can't help but feel there is a certain prejudice against this film because it's a "vampire movie." I mean, how many other films have you heard of that were denied a shot at an Academy Award not once, but twice! Un-be-F'ing-lievable. ::shaking head::

Ugh. I'm glad at least I didn't pay any money to see that.Microwave Jellyfish wrote:I can say "Who the hell cares about this anyway?" with two words:

Back on topic, it's a shame LTROI doesn't have a chance of even being nominated, not because the Oscars mean much in terms of actual quality, but because it would get more people to see it and would encourage producers to back this sort of film.
Bli mig lite.

You've got a point there, I have to agree. LTROI would have the attention it deserves, and probably not overshadowed by LMI next year.

Fuck the Academy awards. They are made for movies that either made a lot of money or serve their audience but some hypocritical do-gooder bullshit...

My sentiments exactly! I know that it's independant films that sneak up and grab you by the heart or throat or balls, Hollywood puts out recycled crap by formula.TAPETRVE wrote:Fuck the Academy awards. This is so ridiculous, because the movie should receive more praise and indeed get a chance at the big price. I guess it'll continue to be a great underground movie that is not known to the bigger masses. Sadly.
