LTROI/LMI

Re: LTROI/LMI
Well, I know how to swoon and go pit-a-pat, but I could do with a few tips on the moiling side of things...
Re: LTROI/LMI
Moiling - Move around in confusion or agitation.
I had to look that one up. I initially thought it was something to do with a "môhel" - pronounced 'moil'.
And neither Eli or Abby would need one of them.

Re: LTROI/LMI
I just watched LMI again the other night. It's a decent film. There is nothing about it that I prefer to LTROI though. Well except, as JAL has noted, you get to see Virginia drink her own blood.
Re: LTROI/LMI
Lena and Kare were great but I wonder how much of that was due to the director? Chloe and Cody(?) came off like good child actors but nothing special IMO. I have no doubt Alfredeson could have coaxed better performances out of both of them. Chloe Moretz especially shows little range of emotion and seems to spend about 90% of the movie looking at her shoes and pouting.Nightshift wrote:As I've said before, if it wasnt for LMI I would probably not have known about LTROI film/novel. LMI caused such an emotional stir in me that I wound up here and the rest is history. I love LMI too but not as much as LTROI. For me personally it was Lina's sublime job as an actress that cemented the deal for me. The more I watch LTROI the more I appreciate Kare's contribution too. Those two kids ARE Oskar and Eli as far as I'm concerned. But back to LMI, I also fell in love with Abby and Owen as I was introduced to the basic framework of JAL's wonderful story. I am not a film snob I am a diesel mechanic but I know the difference between a good movie and a P.O.S. and LMI is certainly no P.O.S.

Re: LTROI/LMI
To be honest that did happen to me. The week before LMI I fell in love with LTROI watched it many times, saw lmi once I did love it, but I didn't feel for the core relationship as much then I saw it many more times and preferred LMI, one I had a time away from LMI I got obsessed with ltroi again and preferred IT. It's kind of weird, I mean I still think now I'll always prefer ltroi just because it's SO much more sweet and what not, but the bias over the movies for me kept switching it seems.

Re: LTROI/LMI
For me LTROI is the better movie, the mood, the tone, the setting and above all the main characters. Kare and Lina gave a wonderful performance. They used a lot of expressions to fill in the silences between their speech while I felt that Cody and Chloe were a bit too one dimensional, Cody seemed to be constantly shocked and, as someone pointed out earlier, Chole pouted throughout the movie.Bustedstuff15 wrote:So I have always been a fan of both LTROI and LMI. I find them to both be beautiful movies even though LTROI does hold a more special place in my heart because it reminds me of the novel more. That being said there are certain things I like about each movie more than the other. Im wondering what other peoples views are on certain parts they liked and disliked more. And please if all your going to do is trash LMI dont post on this discussion. Thanks
LMI is a good movie but how could it not be given that it had the same base story? LMI is and, I guess has to be, sanitised for the American market. The Idea of sexuality being brought into a story about children is more acceptable in Europe in my opinion. One thing I did like about LMI was that at times Abby seemed to be much more open with her feelings compared to Eli.
There is something about the Scandinavian winter, a mood that is unlike any other, that comes through in artistic works from the region. Artists that are influenced by it show it in their work, many Norwegian musicians in black metal or ambient scenes are good examples of this. It provides a haunting setting for the relationship in LTROI that I didn't get in LMI. I also think that because JAL based the story in his home town of Blackeberg it added another level of depth but this was not a feature in LMI, it could have been anywhere. The time it is set in gives another layer, and I was happy to see that both films honoured that aspect of the novel.
It goes without saying that the novel was more superior to both as it gave back stories etc but I was glad that I had watched LTROI first as it gave me images to put to the words. I had hoped to find the deleted scene from LTROI when Eli tells Oskar to 'be me a little' as it most certainly looks like there should have been a scene there when Oskar closes his eyes and the next scene shows him sitting at the table waiting for Eli to come out of the shower. LMI were brave enough to shoot the scene which shows Abby being infected but unfortunately cut it from the film. Having watched the scene on you tube I found it to be a powerful and disturbing scene which added another layer to the Abby character. LTROI should have shot that scene for Eli as I feel it would have made her fuller as a character and would have shown her loss of innocence as a young boy.
If that scene does exist I'd appreciate a link.

I dont think they ever shot that scene in LTROI. I remember reading an interview where TA said they were about to shoot it but in order to do the castration they would have had to kill a pig or something crazy like that.Cuchullain wrote:

Question to LMI fans
Does Abby actually sob in the tunnel scene? A guy on Imdb claimed she did. Supposedly it was very brief and subtle. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: LTROI/LMI
Depends on your view.
It's clearly a snort to me and definitely not a sob, but if you read the the original film into it, saying "it must be a sob here because there is one in LTROI", then you could be tempted take the snort for a sob.
LMI uses so many scenes from LTROI it seems inevitable to compare it with the original.

For me, LTROI and LMI are like apples and oranges, I don't know which one I shall bring to lunch.
