Hi, how is everyone? Im kinda new so if this has been asked before, sorry about that, but if not; does anyone know the book Hakan is reading in the chinese food restaurant? Langesen Forbi by Lars Widding? Anything i search comes back to me in Swedish. Regretably, i do not know Swedish. Could anyone shed some light? Thanks.

And a by the by. I spent many a night reading through the forums and you guys go pretty deep sometimes. So deep in fact there have been times i wanted to chip in my 2¢ but decided not because the conversations were so involved. I really enjoy the site and hopefully can strike up the nerve one of these days to pounce on one of the topics brought up here. One of these days.

I haven't read that particular book, but several others by Lars Widding. Many (most of?) his novels were set in a historical context, which I believe was quite well researched. I've read some that were set in the late eighteenth century, i.e. near the time when Elias still lived with his parents.

When I watched the swedish commentary TA and JAL said that the book was pretty popular in the 80s in sweden. And that it wasn't of the best writer but it was still very popular. In a way making Håkan to be a pretty normal man, looking from the outside. In the novel however he had a much more sofisticated book taste, from what I can recall.
Next time you feel like joining the discution, please do The thing about these forums is to get different viewing points, the more the better. We don't judge either, so if you miss spell or feel like you did say something wrong which I highly doubt, we won't really care about that I know I won't.

I was wondering myself about this book. If you are watching the movie and do not know Swedish (or Euro English in the case of the pool song "Flash in the Night" which I didn't hear as English!), the pop songs chosen mean nothing, but when you find the lyrics on YouTube you realize the appropriateness of the song not just to the time period, but also to the plot of the movie. What does the title of this book mean? "Long Past" according to Google translate, seems apropos. What of the plot or the characters? Any relation to LTROI's plot besides contemporary literature?

Oh, okay cool. I was watching the movie earlier and i hadnt really noticed the book, but when he went to leave, you get a clear view of the cover. Had to know. I love historically based books. I may try to find some of his work.

I had mentioned this book in a post I made quite a while back. I can't remember now, but I believe I found info about it at Wikipedia. I believe the LTROI novel mentioned that Hakan had a lot of books that were destroyed when his home was burned. So naturally he would have been a lifelong bookworm.

It seems like every time I visit this forum I learn something new about this story (such as this information about Hakan's book). As more people jump into conversations, more new story elements and alternate interpretations are revealed.
