I doubt that the unique Swedish perspective of the film would come through if the climate were changed to one of warmth. Perhaps some of the Swedes could give us their thoughts on how the film's message would or would not come through if the climate were changed from cold winter to hot summer.

I just cannot picture Eli/Oskar/Lina/Kare doing their outdoor scenes in any season beside winter.

I think in order to emphasize the heat one would certainly need the sun...and as we know Eli and the sunlight don't mix too well. Snowy weather in the original film works because of it's contradictory nature...beautiful but deadly. If you live in Texas one thing you learn quickly is that there's nothing beautiful about the sun....it's all deadly. I promise, if you stay too long on the playground trying to impress next door neighbor with your Rubik's Cube the only thing you'll get is a sunstroke...
