I agree about the sound. Even during the opening credits the ambient sounds of a distant train, a dog barking, even the snow in the air is all beautifully done. A lot of people take the sound in films for granted, but somebody worked hard to put all those sounds there, and with LTROI they did an amazing job.
I just got the DVD of "The Tree of Life" and before the movie starts there is a screen which reads, 'For best results, the producers of this film suggest you turn the volume up loud', or words to that effect. I would make the same suggestion for LTROI.
I got to see LTROI on the big screen at last!

It's true that there are a big lose of the important of the sound when we watch the movie on a laptop or a thing like that, even with an headphone. Especially during the calms scenes to (for ?) benefit all the little and ambient sounds. Nothing can replace a cinema, for the best or for the worst
Wow, Tree of Life, Terrence Malick. Surely my second favorite movie (after who you know
) and one of my favorite director (The Thin Red Line, AAAAAaaarrgh, and Days of Heaven, surely one of the most beautiful photography in a movie). I had the chance to view it in a cinema and i can't imagine to receive the same impact during the genesis/creation of the world scene with a viewing on a little screen with "little" sound
