Eli's posessions

Re: Eli's posessions
Another speculative possibility as to the source of some or all of Eli's money could include Hakan's savings. Eli "rescued" him in the book and he may have had savings, although I can't remember if it was mentioned. It was stated in the book LTROI that Hakan gave the boy prostitute a 1000 Kronor "gift" plus 500 for the service fee. That Hakan was sympathetic enough to give a large sum of money, without being that concerned with the cost to himself, to a totally strange boy; then his gratitude to Eli for "saving" him could assumed to be that much higher. Eli may have had other benefactors of this nature and therefore didn't steal money technically.
It is worth remembering that Eli could hibernate for long periods and therefore did not have to provide for himself every day for over 200 years. I still think as a matter of speculation that Eli would avail himself of resources if necessary. Perhaps he didn't steal in the case of Jocke because he was upset at having to kill again himself because he expected Hakan to fulfill the role of caretaker for awhile.

Re: Eli's posessions
Håkan only had "meagre" savings when he moved from Karlstad. Additionally, the payment of the insurance on his house was delayed because the crime investigation was slow. At the time when he met Eli, he likely had used all of his savings - he was drinking stuff like denatured alcohol and home-brew wine, the ingredient's for the latter which he had stolen. Thus, I think the source of Håkan's ten thousand kronor was Eli's box, maybe without Elis' knowledge. But I guess Eli wouldn't have bothered anyway.Marlow wrote:Another speculative possibility as to the source of some or all of Eli's money could include Hakan's savings. But Eli could have got the money from an earlier helper.

"Eli had given him (Hakan) money to buy some clothes ......"
It appears Hakan used all his money on booze and was skint.

Re: Eli's posessions
I stand corrected. I didn't remember those details from the book.

Re: Eli's posessions
Wherever Eli gets the money, he must know a reliable source. Bank note designs get superseded and old ones withdrawn. Eli wouldn't be able to exchange old ones for new at a bank.
I don't think blood banks would be much help

Re: Eli's posessions
Would being immensely strong and able to fly make acquiring cash much of a problem for a vampire?
Then again, Eli said the money was given to him, and I don't think he ever lied to Oskar (apart from where he left his willy
, but I think that was sarcasm)

Re: Eli's posessions
Well, flying etc would maybe not be such a great asset. The greatest threat to Eli would be people learning about his existence, so he would avoid being too flamboyant in public.Ash wrote:Would being immensely strong and able to fly make acquiring cash much of a problem for a vampire?

And Eli did lie to Oskar quite a lot (in the novel), about where he spent his days, and other general circumstances. Oskar was mad at him for that when he realised Eli had lied, and he didn't know what was true and what wasn't.

Re: Eli's posessions
This is the "do you want to give me a present" look (spell) she used on the hospital receptionist.
Why am I unconsciously reaching for my wallet while I look at it?

While wandering here between posts and FF, I am gradually getting convinced, that I haven't seen anywhere more beautiful madness than on this forum. Clubmeister
