Finally had the opportunity to see LTROI on the Big Screen..

Post by Harls » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:42 am

Many thanks to Image for posting the link to the Odeon website otherwise I would never have known it was on...

I took a friend along to see the showing in Chelmsford, Essex, and while the turnout was poor (15 souls including myself), the lack of people present only added to the experience (no chomping on popcorn, etc).

My friend had only seen the film on DVD once and admitted there were times in the film where he still jumped. He was nonetheless very impressed with seeing the film on a large screen, as was I - I noticed small details in the film that I'd never noticed on the DVD. One small detail that I saw stayed in my mind and I thought I'd share it with you: when Lacke & Co. gather with Gösta at the scene of Jocke's demise, there is an imprint in the snow of the sled that Håkan used to haul the body away:

I had never noticed that before. Neither had I been aware of Oskar's nervous breathing when Lacke is searching for a knife in the kitchen of Eli's apartment. It's the small details like this that really make the film, in my opinion.

I also noticed a lot of foot-tapping whenever 'Kvar i min bil' was playing :D

Anyway, my passion for the film hasn't lessened any and it's good to know there are at least 14 other infected walking about the streets of Essex...

Huh, I'd never noticed the sled imprint, either.

Nice find, and nice attention to detail on the part of the crew.

I'm glad that you enjoyed seeing at the cinema :)

At the screening I went to there was about 20-30 people, rather more than the 6 that turned up the last time it was shown there I'm glad to say.

There was a bit of a technical hitch when the projectionist forgot to turn off the lights. They did eventually go off when Eli entered the apartment block for the first time

One of the women in the audience laughed out loud when Oskar asked Eli if she'd go out with him and the cat attack got the usual sniggers. Apart from that the audience appeared to enjoy it and weren't in a hurry to leave when the end titles began.

Personally I enjoy hearing the music on a much better sound system than I've got at home. I even started crying when 'The Father' was playing as well as when 'Eli's Theme' plays (that always happens).

I'm  with envy. I so love the "big screen" and would be beyond thrilled to see my favorite film on it.
I never noticed the sled imprint either.

It really is an experience that can't be matched

Having the pleasure to see this film in 35mm format the way it was meant to be seen (or maybe this is just the cinephille in me talking)

Btw I had never noticed the sled imprints before...nice catch :)
