The journey to my eventual infection began when I first saw the Swedish film a few years ago. One night I was browsing Netflix for a good horror movie and Let the Right One In caught my eye. I read the description, as well as a review (You can never be too careful with Netflix instant-view horror.), before diving into the film. I loved it, even recommended it to my brother the next day, but I didn’t see it as anything other than an excellent film.
However, about 3 weeks ago, I saw the Blu-ray of the Swedish film on sale and decided to buy it. Not only did I remember why I had loved it so much after watching it again, but it seemed even better than I had remembered. I saw the American remake a few days later, but it just felt like a needless rehashing of the original. Not that it was a bad film, I just enjoyed it less. A few days after that, I went to my local Barnes and Noble and picked up the book. Now, after finishing the book for the first time, I believe I am what one might call infected. The story, the characters, the atmosphere...none of these have left my head for the past few days. I don’t think I have ever been this fixated on a work of fiction before.
So, does this fade away? Or is this the beginning of a downward spiral? At this point, I might actually be ok with that.
Also, I am definitely planning on getting Let the Old Dreams Die when it is released in English, but what other Lindqvist books would you recommend I read?
