Personally, I see Eli as being without gender. How "she" chooses to present herself is irrelevant. I think "she" embodies a representation of prepubescent innocence and transcends gender.

At least that is what JAL intended...
But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist
