Yes, he did. And I also love the ending of the story.intrige wrote:Yes, with few words JAL maneged to say ALOT! XD
Since Karin didn't return by story's end, even though 2 years had passed (Stefan would have succumbed to the cancer by then), I personally conclude that they had, in fact, located and made contact with our favorite vampire couple. The question is, of course, did Eli & Oskar turn Karin & Stefan into vampires or dinner? I'll bet you can guess what I hoped happened.

Dinner?
Personally, I can't see two very elderly ffolkes, one near death, catching or even catching up to our young vampires. Nor do I see Eli or Oskar doling out the fangs willy nilly to every dying cancer sufferer out there. Oskar was a special case, Eli's once in a (long) lifetime love.

But let's face what we know. I also have to agree with this one. (Agree?? Hhaa, you know what I mean?) I doubht strongly that Eli and Oskar would turn some old Swedish people.covenant6452 wrote:Dinner?

"Plese Oskar, and what's your name little girl? Help us, we love each other. We have been lokking everywhere for you. Since you moved from Blackeberg , and yo...."
"Gaaaaasssspp!!!" Blood, blood, and,, .. Just by them talking Swedish, knowing where they lived and Oskars name. They would probebly freak Oskar and Eli out. And get killed. Ah, I would like to see a cute little FanFic about how Eli and Oskar see them selvs in someone elses love, And bites, (or whatever they do.)to them that infects them..

I couldn't stop thinking about this after I finished reading. Stefan and Karin knew that Stefan's time was running out, did Karin come to the (im)possible conclusion that turning Stefan (and herself) into vampires would rid him of his cancer? or maybe she just wanted to try and solve her case once and for all before her husband's passing.Since Karin didn't return by story's end, even though 2 years had passed (Stefan would have succumbed to the cancer by then), I personally conclude that they had, in fact, located and made contact with our favorite vampire couple. As for Oskar & Eli...it warms my heart to know that they're out there, now in the present time. I can't help but wonder if we will hear more about the lives of Oskar & Eli from JAL someday down the road. probably a long ways out, if it even happens.

Have you ever eaten too much candy? Do you remember how it doesn't really taste that good anymore when you do?waggy05 wrote:As for Oskar & Eli...it warms my heart to know that they're out there, now in the present time. Some things tastes the best when you only eat just enough to still want some more.
Sometimes a really good book is just like that.

It definitely left me still wanting more. Maybe a more intimate perspective on at least part of the story (from Oskar's or Eli's POV) was what I longed for, although I realize that wouldn't have fit the story.

...it has left me wanting more as well. but I'll be patient. these things must not be rushed
Re: Thoughts about Let The Old Dreams Die !!!SPOILERS!!!
Frankly I'm happy the story was left so open and I'm not sure I'd want to see closure or a finality to Oskar and Eli from JAL. To Paraphrase M. Reeves, There comes a time when a story no longer belongs to its' creator. In Let The Old Dreams Die the title says it all. JAL fulfilled his promise and, in a sense, gave us Oskar and Eli as we see fit. Whatever happens to them, in our imagination and thoughts, happens. No doubt there will be a new generation of fanfics to stir the imagination for a long time to come.
"Can we die?" "Of course we can." Eli put his hand on his heart, felt the slow beats. Maybe it was because he was a child. Maybe that was why he hadn't put an end to it. The pangs of conscience were weaker than his will to live.

But you've got to admire them for giving it a try.covenant6452 wrote:Dinner?

We never stop reading, although every book comes to an end, just as we never stop living, although death is certain. (Roberto Bolaño)
