Why did Hakan grope Eli?

I thought of this when reading another thread. When Hakan first meets Eli he puts his hand on her thigh (or something like that.) But Hakan likes little boys not little girls. And even though Eli is really a boy he wouldn't have known that the first time he saw him. Does it make sense for him to try to grope her like that?

If I have understood it correctly most pedophiles do not really limit themselves to one gender. The things they are attracted by are present in children regardless of gender. The things that make them children, not what makes them male or female. In the very first chapter we meet Håkan, it is clear that he is attracted by a little girl he passes by. While he does seem to prefer boys, he is clearly attracted to girls as well.

That is at least what I can tell from my basic knowledge in criminology and psychology. But that is just speculation, haven't studied pedophiles specificly.

I agree. He was drunk, disgusted in himself, and just waiting to die.
Unlike the Blakeberg rat-pack, who chose to become alcoholics, Haken, like Eli, didn't have any choice in what he was.You can't cure paedophilia any more than you can cure homosexuality or vampireism for that matter. He could control it, but by the time he met Eli, he was way past caring about the consequences of his actions. I think he would have put his hand on anyone who sat next to him in the park that night. Like hopeless drunks often do.

That's funny. One day last week I rode the bus to work and there was this woman carrying a glass jar which was about 1/3 filled with some amber colored liquid. I immediately thought I hope that's not acid.
