Im reading the novel..

I read a friend's copy this year [sometime] and enjoyed it plenty, but it was no LTROI. The difficult-second-album syndrome, I guess. I look forward to reading the others.

John has written a second epilogue to the book but the problem is that no one knows, or is willing to give, a date when it will be released. John has posted on the forum saying that it will be in his next short story compilation book.

The only problem I see is a) the soonest it might come out is next year, which is fine! But the hard question is b) when it will be translated into English!
I thought I saw some where that the English version of “paper walls”, due out sometime next year, will have it. But I can’t find where it was said or who said it.

A lot of folks dismiss Hakan as a soulless monster and while I don't condone his pedophilia throughout the novel I find myself feeling like I should acknowledge the fact that as bad as he was I felt he wasn't totally lost.

SPOILERS!!!!!!







He did give the child a wad a money for new teeth after noticing that the kids teeth had been knocked out. Sure he wanted to do something terrible with this little boy but the fact that he pulled back from it shows he has at least some sense of compassion if however dim it may be.

And who knows maybe it wasn't his choice to be attracted to little kids in the first place, though I do feel it was his choice to indulge the fantasies.

All in all I felt he was a complex character and I think it takes a genuinely good author to make a reader feel anything but loathing for a villain.

My favorite villains are the ones where you actually feel some sympathy for the character.

If you mean which is John Ajvide Lindqvist's second novel, it's Handling the Undead which to my knowledge should be available in English.
