Occam smiles upon you from the Happy Lands, Lombo.

I agree.lombano wrote:... so again, in context, no supernatural abilities are required to explain her behaviour.
However, JAL points a finger at the receptionist's sudden desire to give Eli something. There's something here.

She wasn't high on morphine. If anything, she was rather dour and irritated. Until Eli bumped into her arm.lombano wrote:If Eli has such hypnotic abilities at all they would have to be rather ineffective. Hakan proves difficult to manipulate, even going on strike at one point. Had Eli had such abilities he could've made his life much easier. Moreover, there is little real indication of any such abilities, even if limited. Nobody does anything truly out of character - Eli is an urchin and thus the hospital receptionist's reaction isn't particularly surprising, plus, a serious-looking kid walking in alone into a hospital at night is probably facing a bad situaiton in any case, sympathy is not surprising. A natural reaction in such a case is wanting to give the child something - a sweet, a toy, etc. The cancer woman is high on morphine, and probably very lonely, so again, in context, no supernatural abilities are required to explain her behaviour.

Run, and you might live.
Stay, and you might die.

Exactly! That's what I think as well... JAL is subtle with these kind of things... there's definitely something there.metoo wrote:I agree.lombano wrote:... so again, in context, no supernatural abilities are required to explain her behaviour.

Here is a post I made more than a year ago.

Maybe telepathy is too strong a word for what we are describing?
Another part I remember is the rock, paper, scissors game where Oskar keeps winning. He seems to always know what Eli is going to do.
Hakan's obsession with Eli is perhaps explainable psychologically, but still it seems very strange and extreme.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Yes, this is a "power" that Oskar has got, and which Eli hasn't. I wonder what will happen to it after Oskar is turned? Will it get stronger?gattoparde59 wrote:Another part I remember is the rock, paper, scissors game where Oskar keeps winning. He seems to always know what Eli is going to do.

Re: Top 10 Qestions of the Novel
Hmmm good questions. I've actually been wondering about some of the same things myself. I'm not sure if Eli had hypnotic powers or not. To honest, that one has really been bothering me, especially when it comes to the woman with Cancer. I'm not sure about why she let herself land so hard it hurt, either. i was thinking about that a few hours ago. I was thinking that it may have been necessary for her to do that in order to grow out her claws. As far as what she says about waking up after long periods of sleep and being little again, I think the same thing happens that happens when she's hungry and starts to age and turn into a corpse almost, but wakes up younger and perhaps healthier like when she feeds---just speculation, though. Idk about her dad. Great question tho. I'm not really sure why Tommy wasn't infected. The blood is just for the gore and creepiness I think. No they didn't have sex. I think really didn't care if Eli was a boy or not. I think maybe Eli might have been given some of the money and stole some--who knows. I think Oskar just my have not wanted to think about the possibility of the bullies having another reason to pick on him.
We fell in love despite our differences...and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created.

The reason way I ask about Eli dad is because of Oskars observation of the funny man who was an aide to the vampire lord that turned Eli. I could be wrong but I think Oskar makes the connection that this aid might have been Eli dad?
Re: Top 10 Qestions of the Novel
Since Oskar recognized Eli's mother, he would have recognized Eli's father IF he had seen him. I don't think he thought that was Eli's dad.cory wrote:The reason way I ask about Eli dad is because of Oskars observation of the funny man who was an aide to the vampire lord that turned Eli. This is the first time I have heard this theory, though.
