I must admit that i saw Let Me In before i read the book and in the movie when Abby said she was not a girl, the first thing i thought of was that she was saying she wasnt human because of being a vampire. But when i read the book and the castration thing was brought up, i freaked out a little and for a time wasnt sure if i could finish it. But i decided to finish and soon i learned to accept it, plus i guess i should have read the book first since it is the original material. Now i did love the book, one of the best vampire books i have read in a will, but i wanted to now that if anyone was hesitant to finish the book when the castration was brought up, or was it just me because i so the movie without that fact in mind.
Also in relations to Let Me In, when Owen peeks on Abby when she is changing and he has that reaction, was that from seeing her nude or maybe was that Matt Reeves way of showing the castration so that anybody who read the book might catch that and people who didnt would think he was shy for seeing her naked.
Any response toward this topic would appreciated.

I saw LTROI first, the when I had to research the peek scene, I got the spoiler (before reading the book). It didn't stop me from reading and enjoying the novel. In fact, it made me more curious. The events in the novel just created greater sympathy for Eli. What freaked you out most? That Eli was a boy or the sheer brutality of the scene? Frankly, I would have thought Håkan's activities would have turned people off quicker than Eli's castration.
As for the LMI peek scene, I believe Matt Reeves has made it fairly clear that he intended Abby to be a girl, so I think Owen was just reacting to his first, real life naked girl (not scene through a telescope).

Both Eli being a boy and the castration freaked me out at the same level. Since of its romance between the two, i never ecxpected that and it caught me way off guard. The thought of the castration made me hurt because when u read something painful like that and u can feel it, yeah i felt so bad for Eli. But im now past all that and can say that i love the book. Also to your Hakan comment, that scene when Eli faced him in the basement brought me shivers down my spine and disgust for the character, but i thank Tommy so much for smashing his face in, pervert deserved it.

I haven't seen LMI but when I saw that Eli has a scar there on LTROI I presumed that Eli was a boy once. It didn't really bother me though and less so the more I thought about it. The actual castration part in the book made me have to bite my wrist as I was reading though lol. I'm still not sure why the evil lord did that. He could have turned Eli but biting or something. Just an evil act? I guess so.
I also think that although Eli was born a boy and says that he isn't a girl that Eli does still lean more towards the feminine than the masculine. Maybe because the castration was before puberty or maybe Eli was always like that. When Oskar asks her to borrow some of his clothes after Eli got blood on his Eli chose to wear a dress. Maybe because Eli knew Oskar still sees him as a girl but I think Eli prefers that.
It is strange how it's easier to accept Eli as a 'vampire' than as a boy. Oskar thinks so himself to start with. But also by then you know Eli so well that it really doesn't matter. It's one of the things that I love about the story. It doesn't matter that Eli is a vampire or a boy or girl or anything. Eli is just Eli and Oskar and the infected more than accept Eli that way

I agree to eveything u said and as do i accept Eli, if i could i would give him the biggest and most poerful hug that i could give.

Same goes for Abby specifically since i love Chloe Moretz.

I love the bit in the book after Oskar stays at Eli's the night and Eli tells him that he is really a boy and Eli is short for Elias and Eli leaves that really sweet note and gives Oskar the choice to meet that night but will understand if not and will leave. In the morning when Oskar reads it he thinks about it and writes a huge YES! That was good.
I might watch Let Me In sometime just to see I but for me there is only one Oskar and Eli and that is Kare and Lina. Plus Abby is nowhere near as good a name even as Eli. In my opinion anyway

Yeah i like that part to. I remember after reading the note part and thought what i would do i this situation. I decided i would put yes, to see him again cause at that point i would be so facinated i dont think i could have put no. It was a very touching part and i can only think how Eli must of felt when he picked up the note and saw the YES.

You and me thought exactly the same thn mate

. I also thought of how nice it was of Eli and how Eli must have felt when writing it and then laying in the bath and being really worried Oskar might say no or just leave. Before Oskar wrote yes I felt like jumping into the book and saying "you better say f@#%ing yes!" lol

I wasn't put off by it but I don't understand how that turned Elias into a vampire.

I thought that exact same thing! Something must have happened after then that Eli didn't show Oskar. Or maybe Eli didn't want to or couldn't remember
