New reader

I have just had the delicious pleasure of reading ltroi for the first time. Wow.
I loved the film but the novel blew me away. What a fantastic collection of characters have been created by the author. And so pleased to find this forum to feed my infection and delve deeper in to the story.
There is just so much more in the novel compared to the film. It was great finding out about the feelings of the main characters, something you just don't get from the film. Now I have to read it again and watch the film. Not seen the US version yet but guess I will be disappointed.

While I disagree with that, it is true that you do learn more about the interior lives of the characters.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

Actually, I believe Let Me In is quite great in its own right. I wouldn't underestimate it just because it is a remake. While of course it is not quite on the level of Let the Right One In, it was extremely well-made and I would even go so far as to say that it is one of the greatest American horror films ever made. See it as soon as you can.

Welcome among the Infected steviej. :)
The novel definetly took me much deeper into Osakr and Eli's world after I saw the film. A journey I found most rewarding.

Welcome to the forum. I, too, enjoyed the book for precisely the reasons you identified. I thought that in general is was much darker and grittier than the film.

I agree with the_lambda_man on this. While we can all agree on the point that "Let The Right One In" is probably the best vampire movie released within the past decade. I would also highly recommend you watch the American remake "Let Me In", while it does appear to be "Let The Right One In" with a much larger budget. "Let Me In" does differ from the Swedish original in so many ways, and is an alternative re-telling of the francise.

I agree with this in regards to Lacke, Jocke, Virginia and the others who really didn't get enough screen time in my opinion (but I read the book first). I also think the book gives you a lot more to be sympathetic for Eli, because of Hakan.

Exactly ofelia - All the other characters were more rounded including Hakan. The main characters reveal things about themselves that aren't in the film. But what do you mean by this " I also think the book gives you a lot more to be sympathetic for Eli, because of Hakan" Why does Hakan make you sympathetic to Elias? Elias "rescues" Hakan from his miserable life and turns him in to a murderer and then he turns Hakan in to another monster - a zombie! Why the sympathy for this?
