Will there ever be a sequel to LTROI?

Is there an answer to that question? I mean real sequel not just a little bit of a sequel. How are we supposed to go about waiting for the follow up?

Welcome, Irvino81. Good question. Would John Ajvide Lindqvist have to write It first? Could it be based instead on some of the great fan fictions on this forum? Would it be just Eli, or Eli and Oskar? Would it be more of a vampire flick and less about relationships? Could O and E both be vampires? Could they have decided to go all vigilante on us and begin ridding Europe of bullies?
Now you've got me started!

Personally, I very much like that John Ajvide Lindqvist has said that there will be no sequels to LtROI (apart from the fan fiction here and elsewhere, of course).

Well, there was kind of a sequel in written form with LTODD. If there was to be a film sequel it would definitely have to have Lina and Kåre back again as the original characters in a post-Blackeberg story.
It would also need JAL writing the screenplay and Alfredson directing, and Soderqvist of course.
So I expect the possibility of this perfect storm to be somewhere around zero. Some things are better left alone anyway.

No Sequel! Now I wish I would have not ask. I just discovered this phenomenon and I join this forum looking for answers but now that I have them I will do like I always do when the answers are not what I wanted. Denial, sweet denial. Thanks for your help folks anyways. I didn't know John had made a statement about a sequel.

John's "sequel" is very satisfying (Let the Old Dreams Die). Yes, very satisfying, but not what I would call a sequel, really. More like tidying up a bit of unfinished business.
But you don't need to be in denial about possible sequels. John checks in from time to time and has had some favorable things to say about the Fan Fiction section. I mean, there are more sequels there (with more being added from time to time) than you can imagine. Many of them live in my mind as vividly as the film does. And they aren't limited to just Oskar and Eli in and around Blackeberg. Some are in the future, some in a remarkable past. Some are by such accomplished writers that they will undoubtedly end up with a wider audience and, who knows, maybe end up as film scripts.
So be of good cheer, dear newly infected. The adventure continues, just as Eli/Lina and Oskar/Kåre continue to live on in our hearts.

I think I'm on record as saying I wouldn't mind a sequel. But I don't think it'll ever happen. It'd probably turn out to be like trying to go back to sleep and capture a really good dream you just woke up from--never happens.

Welcome to the forum.
I also would like to see a sequel to LTROI but I don't think it will happen.

He actually thinks we're a bunch of nuts. But seeing as JAL himself is a tad "out where the buses don't run", we nuts don't fall far from his tree.

Maybe you know something I don't, can you please help me understand why you think this story is best without a sequel? I'm honestly asking. After I finished reading LTROI I was left with a feeling the book was not complete, that it had no ending. I think John A. is great, that his work is original and fantastic and I thank him for it. But this is not like " The little prince" or "20 000 leagues under the sea" where you and the author made an agreement to imagine the end in whatever way you want. Can you please help me understand? At this point I'll take anything. For the last two weeks I think of nothing more than Eli, Oskar and his mom.
