Guys, first draft scripts suck.
All of them.
No exceptions.
That's why it's a first draft.
It's mostly just to get a basic "blob" of a story out on paper so you can sculpt the finer details and/or make major changes if necessary. It'd be difficult to fine-tune a machine if you didn't at least have all the assemblies built, yes? You need something on paper you can look at and show to other people, something basic you can work with.

Oh, give it a chance! Come on. First draft is not finished product.

The first draft is what the writer turns in first. It's lumpy and often wouldn't work if you just filmed it then -- then the production company either asks for a second draft from the same writer, or assigns other writers to the project for a second draft. Then sometimes you get a third and a fourth draft, depending on a lot of things, and a lot of things can change. All those writers get a writing credit when the film opens. (and they all get paid for each draft)
The shooting script is what they go to film with, and certain directors have the attitude that the screenplay is the Bible, and nothing can or should be altered. Other directors like to play with it a bit. It just depends on their working style. I don't know how Matt Reeves works!
(I didn't read it, I don't want to. I don't care. I want to see the movie.)
