Re: First draft of screenplay available online
Got it! But thanks anyway jellmoo.
I did read the first couple pages, because I already knew what would be there from reading the synopsis. If you want to get a taste of Reeves' sensibilities read those first two pages. The beginning of the Reeves version is completely different from the Swedish version. There is frenetic motion, flashing lights, noise etc. On page two I stopped reading when I spotted a dirty little word: "HANDHELD." I guess the idea is to open big, grab your attention etc. Reeves' BFF is J. J. Abrams. Star Trek opened the same way, lots of noise, flashing lights etc. "Huh?! Where am I? Oh, that's right, I'm in a movie theater!"
Hit 'em over the head in other words, with a sledgehammer. Typical Hollywood.

I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

If anyone wants to download the script go to mediafire and then add ?jinqemznrzy after the URL. I'm unable to add the URL here for some reason.
One thing that I find insulting is how much little respect Reeves appears to have the for the audience. Whereas the original film was all about ambiguity, this one feels the need to explain everything.
Seriously, look at ANY scene with Hakan. There's a scene where he tells Owen "I used to be JUST like you!" just to further beat into the viewer's head that Owen is the new Hakan. So now anyone unfamiliar with the the original sources are going to automatically assume that Abby is grooming Owen to be the next Hakan. Granted, that was a fairly popular theory with the first film and one that the people behind gave mention to, but the film's ending was still open to interpretation. By having lines comparing Owen to Hakan you're taking away the audience's abilities to draw their own conclusions.
Or when he tells Abby "Maybe I'm doing such a bad job because I want to get caught." And so forth. Compare it in the original film where he didn't say that because he didn't HAVE to. The viewer could reach that interpretation based on facial expressions and body movements.
That, and with some exceptions, this is virtually the same entire thing as the original film! And Reeves has the audacity to say "This is based on the book" when he's clearly lifting entire scenes from the original film, including the pool scene which is significantly different in the novel. But because this is a remake of a foreign film, he can get away with it because his target audience won't have seen the original film.

Having read all of the posts, does anyone know if there is the slightest possibility of this being a hoax?

I doubt it. Early film drafts get leaked all the time. The scripts for the Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes, for example, were leaked early on and in the end were pretty accurate to the final product on screen.

Could be. As I said, it seems to be following the earlier synopsis that someone else posted. There is one way to find out.gary13136 wrote:Having read all of the posts, does anyone know if there is the slightest possibility of this being a hoax?

Re: First draft of screenplay available online
Anyone could write up a fake plot synopsis, but I don't see why someone would go through the effort of writing an entire professional-sounding script for a film like this. For, say, a new Star Wars or Indiana Jones film--definitely. But no one outside of a fairly small group of people is going to care about this, and really, there's nothing shocking or controversial in the script that would warrant someone trying to fool people. It's just your standard remake script.

OK, I'm definitely convinced, I'm not watching the remake.
Bli mig lite.
Re: First draft of screenplay available online
I don't see why someone would do that either. But then I, and probably you, are thinking logically. And not everyone thinks logically. But some people will do strange things for no other reason than to fool others. If this is a valid script, and the writer did not want the script to become generally known, why would he put it where it could become generally known? That's sort of like my having a million dollars in cash in my house and then letting that information become generally known.CyberGhostface wrote:Anyone could write up a fake plot synopsis, but I don't see why someone would go through the effort of writing an entire professional-sounding script for a film like this. Of course, if I had a million dollars in cash, I would be doing something different right now.

With electronic copies it is easy to see how a draft like this could wind up on the internet. Reeves sent copies to friends for comment, they shared it with their friends and . . .gary13136 wrote:If this is a valid script, and the writer did not want the script to become generally known, why would he put it where it could become generally known?
