I really hope, but don't expect, that it has some success here in UK. As far as promoting the film goes I've seen trailers for it at every film I've seen for the last 4-5 weeks.
As I've said elsewhere I was at the UK premiere at the London Film Festival during the week and I saw it again there yeaterday. Unsurprisingly both times the screenings were sold out, but I don't think any of that will count for much when it gets it's universal release here in a couple of weeks.
Ultimately I don't think this story has mainstream appeal, which means that it's never going to get Twilight type numbers at the box office

"Let The Right One In":
Swedish domestic return / Swedish budget = 2.122065/ 4.375636 = 48.5% domestic "satisfaction"
"Let Me In":
American domestic return / American budget = 10.216015 / 20 = 51.1% domestic "satisfaction" (as of 10/14)
Not bad actually seeing as "Let Me In" will probably pull in another couple million before close in the US.

This is a real shame for both films. I was really hoping LMI would do much better than it has. It's a solid, thought-provoking film (just look at all the heat it's generated on this forum

) and it's a mystery to me as to why it's doing so poorly. The ONLY good thing about this is that the DVD and Blu-ray disks may come out a bit sooner than scheduled.

I'm actually quite confident in the upcoming DVD sales.

Sweden's a significantly smaller country than the US (like, smaller than some of its states) so making that amount of money in Sweden probably means more than making that amount of money in the US.
According to the BoxOfficeMojo, LTROI was #31 for Sweden's 2008 B.O. The 31st best-selling film for 2008 in the US was 10,000 BC, which made $94,784,201. That should give you an idea of the differences between the two countries.

I would agree with you; that it lacks mainstream appeal. Just not enough violence, gore, and action. And definitely lacking in graphic sex. But that was basically the same problem with LTROI. Maybe the movie will do better in the UK. Time will tell.
