Comic book - The sequel
Hi, again;
John Ajvide Lindqvist here.
Just wanted to inform you about the final result of the comic book thing.
A lawyer from Spitfire have now informed me that I have indeed sold more or less every right I have to them.
This is not what I was told by the swedish lawyer handling the deal between the swedish and the american producers when I signed the contract. The juridical language was inpenetrable and I was told that this contract did not change anything, that it was just a formality (In the swedish contract it was stipulated that a thing like this could not be.)
I was misinformed. Fooled, even. The american contract was a completely different deal.
Hard as it may be, I therefore owe Spitfire an apology. They have proceeded as they saw fit, whith the rights they have indeed aquired.
My feeling towards the projct remain unchanged, but as it turns out I have no say in the matter.
My hopes are still that they only produce a comic book adaptation of the movie. I could accept, or even like that. As for the other parts ... I can only keep my fingers crossed.
Sorry to have caused this storm in a glass of water (Does this expression exist in english?). I am the fool here.
Next time I will read all contracts with a magnifying glass, sitting on the shoulders of at least four lawyers.
bye bye for now.
John

Storm in a teacup (British) = tempest in a teapot (American)johnajvide wrote: Sorry to have caused this storm in a glass of water (Does this expression exist in english?).
I have often remarked that some many things in LTROI are so ambiguous that is like a mirror: When people try to fill in the blanks, they end up filling them in with themselves.

Getting ripped off like that, er, deceived like that is not a trivial matter.johnajvide wrote:Next time I will read all contracts with a magnifying glass, sitting on the shoulders of at least four lawyers.
Next time you need reliable lawyers, to state the obvious.
I'll break open the story and tell you what is there. Then, like the others that have fallen out onto the sand, I will finish with it, and the wind will take it away.

All the comic book idea bashing aside, actually no one really takes these "expended storyline" Dark Horse stuff seriously, no matter what kind of franchise are we talking about. Most of us here doesn't really care about Matt Reeves' thing either. What you wrote that's what is canon, so from artistic POV don't let this stuff bring you down.
From the copyright/financial angle, screw 'em, such is life (seems like not just in the far west).
This doesn't make you a fool.

And we danced, on the brink of an unknown future, to an echo from a vanished past.

I am crossing my fingers that they will be respectful of the characters, but I am not encouraged by the press release I read. I wonder if there is anything that we, "the infected," can do that might help.

Maybe better still if it isn't easily recognizable. The names will hopefully not be Eli and Oskar.

Are there any negative effects to the release of "Let the old dreams die"johnajvide wrote: A lawyer from Spitfire have now informed me that I have indeed sold more or less every right I have to them.

A bit ironically, the whole thing reminds me a bit of a passage in Lilla Stjärna..

If they see the film and fall in love, they might just do it right, you know.
Just to be outrageously positive.

Details, please. But not too much details, we don't wanna read a whole passage for free.drakkar wrote:A bit ironically, the whole thing reminds me a bit of a passage in Lilla Stjärna..
