Let Me In...Again

Post by DavidZahir » Wed Mar 16, 2011 7:40 am

Suppose there were a sequel to the American film, what do think it would entail? And what would you want it to be about? For that matter, who else would you like to see in such a film? I have my own views (and will share them) but what about everybody else?

Yay sequel. NOW I can bring this up. In my version there would be two intertwining stories ala "The Godfather Part II". Of course the main story would be a continuation of Abby and Owen after the train ride. There would also be a back story concerning the filmstrip and the past relationship between Abby and Thomas. It would have a timeline from the point where they met until their parting of ways at the hospital. Did Abby and Thomas have a genuine relationship or was Thomas groomed to be a provider all along? And Owen. Is he destined to become part of the cycle? So many possibilities here.
"Can we die?" "Of course we can." Eli put his hand on his heart, felt the slow beats. Maybe it was because he was a child. Maybe that was why he hadn't put an end to it. The pangs of conscience were weaker than his will to live.

I hope to GOD a sequel is never made. that would not hinder my love for Let Me In, but it would spoil some of its most important aspects.

first of all, a sequel wouldn't even be possible for several years due to Chloe Moretz being pretty much booked solid with film projects for the next three years straight... so she would look older, which would take away from her 12 year old Vampirism appearance. and a sequel without the original cast would be even worse than a sequel with the originals. Kodi is getting older too, it just wouldn't work. plus, LMI did not do well at the box office. no one would want to finance another project.

This is not about a sequel that would actually be made, but an invitation to exercise our own imaginations. If need be, presume that LMI was projected to be a huge hit from the get-go, so much so that a sequel was planned almost immediately. Further assume LMI broke box office records a la Twilight and that everyone's schedules opened up.

Or maybe computer technology improved so much that the voices of Kodi Smitt-McPhee and Chloe Grace Moretz were all they needed--that a breakthrough in CGI made it a thousand times more believable and several times cheaper. Please don't use this as an excuse to complain about CGI in general. Please. Really, please. I'm just offering excuses if you need them to justify a scenario in which such a film might be made.

Some questions to consider:

Where would Abby and Owen go once they left Los Alamos?
How would they arrange for a place to live?
When would they have to leave somewhere?
Who might they meet, and under what circumstances?
As Owen gets older, how would his behavior change?
Under what circumstances might Abby change Owen into what she is?
Might they meet another vampire?
Would anyone figure out what Abby is?
In what way would Abby change simply by having Owen as a part of her life?

The one thing that would be interesting is if Owen refused to kill, how would Abby handle that. Would she in turn kill Owen and move on to another caretaker. And I do like the idea of a Godfather Part 2 type of plot switching around different time periods qirh Owen and Abby , it would be great if there was a prologue showing the events leading up to Abby's turning by her uncle during the 1700s.

Well naturally there must be an obstacle, something to overcome. Perhaps they team up and take care of her creator who presumably is the equivalent to Blue Eyes.
I think a cool idea would be for them to dig around in the roots of the vampire myth, find the origin, whatever than might be.
We know the back story to Eli, which is clearly in Sweden. But what about Abby? what did her 1760s American home look like? What is there now? Does she go back and visit that place?
Perhaps Abby gets captured, and Owen must save her this time around.
They move into an attic of a crazy lady as diabolical as Mrs. Lovett, provide her with the corpses of their snacks, and she makes delicious meat pies with them. In return for the meat, she lets them live there. :D
And of course this time they have to show us the wings :D

It would deal with Owen getting older and facing a dilemma about where he wants to go with his life. There would be an antagonist, maybe another vampire... Maybe there would be a threat of exposure, someone intending to air footage of a vampire attack. Owen would face a moral conflict. By the end, he'd make a decision about whether to become a vampire or stay human. Maybe he'd stay human to contrast with Oskar.

I would rather do a prequel than a sequel. The first prequel would deal with Abby being turned into a vampire and the pain she's going thru with that. The second prequel would deal with how she met Thomas and how he came to her service. For Thomas and Abby, I like to think that his parents were involved with the mob and something went sour. The sequel for Let Me In is how Owen convinces Abby to make him into a vampire, but they also must stop the vampire lord who made Abby into a vampire in the first place. They also must deal with vampire hunters and the police.

I have a fan fic called Lines of Blood, where Abby must face her demons. Here's the link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6671677/1/Lines_of_Blood

As for actors, for the sequel, I'd like to see Clive Owen as the vampire lord, and Don Johnson as a police detective.

The prequel, maybe Diane Lane as Abby's mother.

They would likely need JAL to write it first and then have someone direct a Swedish version before Reeves would be able to make his sequel. Expecting him to write/direct it himself without any groundwork is asking for a disaster.

Maybe they would cross the border into Mexico with the idea that it would be easier for Abby to find victims. Maybe Abby's vampirism could be tied to Mayan culture somehow, so they go to the Mayan ruins looking for answers? And find... :?:
