I think this is what I read that made me think that it is a kind of alternative to what might happen..

"Let the old dreams die is an amazing story, is not completely understandable if you have not read the novel that precedes it, but enough beautiful and universal in order to enjoy it anyway. It tells us the end of Eli's and Oskar's story by telling a completely different story..."

I got that from his website. I think I read something else like that too but I can't think where now. Also someone told me that their names aren't used directly. I would think they would be if it is how he intends the story to end. I may well be wrong though.

I've wondered about what would happen to E&O after Blackeberg. I mean who hasn't? Pondering their future is the hottest topic after "What does this mean in the book or movie?" I've said this before but in regards to their future, I like to think Eli and Oskar remain 12 forever, whatever that means, this side or the other.
"Can we die?" "Of course we can." Eli put his hand on his heart, felt the slow beats. Maybe it was because he was a child. Maybe that was why he hadn't put an end to it. The pangs of conscience were weaker than his will to live.

I guess JAL decided to write it because he did not intend for the audience to think that Oskar was going to be the new blood collector, plus Reeves making it obvious in LMI that was Owen's fate.

Yeah that would be nice in some ways, but then I don't like thinking of Oskar as having to kill for blood. I'm sure he would start to think less of Eli after a while when he has to go through all that and would wish that he hadn't be changed. I'm gonna start writing a FF soon. It might be crap, I've never written anything before. It might be not that bad, some might like it a bit, others might thinks it's rubbish lol. But I will give it a go and let you know when it's done :)

I think an important theme in this story is that both Oskar and Eli were outsiders, outcasts even (in Oskar's case). Society had rejected him. He was being brutalised on a regular basis, and caregivers were not giving care. If Oskar embraced the role of an outsider with power, a predator, who can blame him?

I saw a documentary once about a pride of lions in Africa. One lioness was ostracized from the pride, perhaps she was a bit different. She lived on the outskirts, and while the adults were out hunting the cubs were being killed. Eventually the pride was attacked by another pride, and without any strong new blood they all perished. Natural justice?

I think I saw that programme once actually :)

I know Oskar did want those powers but that was before he met Eli who has them. I don't think Eli in LTROI would infect him because she loves him too much to do that to him. That's my opinion. It sounds nice at first but then not so. Everyone has their different opinons I guess :) I'm making notes for an FF right now. Never ever done one before

I think you could come up with a pretty decent FF judging by some of your posts. :) It doesn't need to be perfect or book lengthy. Some FF I've seen are no more than one page long.

I don't think there are any circumstances under which Eli would suddenly start aging, nor would I want there to be.
Eli wouldn't be Eli for me if he wasn't the forever 12 year old that he is.

Eli is only very young as far as vampires go, who know what would haven over a few thousand years or more.

one of my favourite vampire mythologys is in the Legacy Of Kain series, the vampires don't age, though they do evolve over time.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFiLNc46jAM one of my fave game intros of all time.

another favourite immortal of mine is Doctor Who character, Captain Jack Harkness who over millions of years completely changes his physiology to become the Face of Boe
