The English Dubbing
So curiosity finally got the best of me and I watched LTROI with the original voices dubbed over in English, mostly to see how Eli would sound portrayed by another actress. To be fair, the girl who did Eli's voice actually sounded pretty decent for the most part, but a couple scenes missed the mark by a wide margin. The rest of the voice overs were down right AWFUL! So bad! It was almost comical, as if they butchered their lines on purpose! There was more than one instance where I was laughing so hard that when I finally composed myself the scene had changed! I will say this though, my appreciation of the original actors' performances has increased significantly!
To those who have seen the dubbed version I am very curious to hear your take.
To those who haven't, run away screaming from the very idea!

She touched my soul and now I bear her sentence. But, for her love, I'll gladly pay

Re: The English Dubbing
The quality of English dubbed LTROI runs gamut from comical to ridiculous. This version is to be avoided at all costs. It's always a good idea to watch foreign films in it's native language...with properly translated subtitles.

Nobody understands...and of course...how could they?

Re: The English Dubbing
I have sat through the dubbed version but once. After that I have remained a solid consistent follower of Nightrider's advice.
Re: The English Dubbing
I just saw a few scenes with the English dubbing and I was laughing hehe.
Re: The English Dubbing
Well I sampled it a while ago.
The same reaction as you, laughing so much I missed the rest of the scene. However, that didn't last long and I soon wanted to run out and drain someone's blood ... just to make up for it.
Imagine how many people have only seen it with the dubbed audio
If I had only seen the dubbed version I wouldn't have even watched it long enough to see Jocke get killed. Magnolia really did a hatchet job, it's almost like they wanted the film to fail.
Thankfully (for me) I am of the same opinion as Nightrider ... never dubbed, always subbed ... although the subbing on the early US release was extremely sub par as well.
Well done Magnolia ... great job there.

Re: The English Dubbing
I can't watch it over dubbed in english, it is horrible and kills the film. The first time I started to watch it in english dubbed I thought "Oh hole-y friggin jumping cat fish this sucks" blah

This reminds me of that panic mode I always go into when the dubbed version starts playing because I forgot the set up screen again. Fumbling around for my glasses and the remote and frantically searching for which one is the menu button. Got to make it stop!
Re: The English Dubbing
I haven't the slightest desire to do so and cringe at the very thought.
What's interesting is that Lina's voice is dubbed for most or all of the movie by a Swedish boy because Alfredson said her voice was too high pitched for Eli. I'd be interested to see a version of the film without her voice dubbed, because the expression in a person's voice is a huge part of their acting and I'd love to get the full experience of her performance.

Actually, Lina's voice was dubbed for the entire film, and it was dubbed with Elif Ceylan's voice, another girl, just with a deeper voice.jcckidz wrote:I haven't the slightest desire to do so and cringe at the very thought.

And I would also love to see the version with Lina's voice, but I doubt very much that that even exists any more

Re: The English Dubbing
I saw it in english dubbing a long time ago, and never again. I saw it in swedish normally, and I don't even need subtitles to understand either. But the dubbing, omg.
I thought Oskar was all.. blank and kind of.. boring. The other adults were even more blank, boring, straight forward.
Eli, where do I start? Lina was dubbed because her woice was too light for the part of Eli, and then they dub it in english with a clear femenine light voice? Why not get a better dubber who fitts better? Cause Eli, when she was angry it sounds like she had something in her throat. It did not sound like angry at all, more like a retarded person or something like it. And yes I laughed, everythime Eli got angry. (At least the one with Håkan in the beginning)
I prefere the original one. You guys who have seen the dubbing as first view, I feel sorry for you.
