Perhaps not only the female protagonist… ;)

I interpreted the ending as happy even before the 'epilogue' of sorts from JAL.

Perhaps it's because i really feel that Oskar and Eli are perfect for each other, and that their love is one of the purest expressions of emotion I have ever seen in film. Plus, I associate so deeply with Oskar... To see him go through such hardships with both the schoolmates and the adults in his life was terrible, and brought up my own feelings from my childhood when I was his age. :( I wish I had an Eli of my own!

I want him to find his happiness and safety with Eli, and for Eli to find love and companionship and acceptance in him. They deserve one another, and I'm sure together they would be happy as a underage child vampire couple

Oh yeah...wasn't that because there was a suspicion that Deckard was an android too?

Yes, sort of. But I think the end of Grave of the fireflies is muuuch sadder than that of LTROI :?

Very happy ending though Eli might have opted for experienced killer Hakan rather than wannabe killer Oskar.
Strategically quite a stupid move for a child vampire not to have an adult companion.
In the end Eli chose heart over brain.... still the best choice in my book.

Agree. Hakan has very handy device on his head. Very useful for collecting blood. 8-)

That film made me cry :'(

.
"For a few seconds Oskar saw through Eli’s eyes. And what he saw was … himself. Only much better, more handsome, stronger than what he thought of himself. Seen with love."
