What happened with Oskar's parents

What happened with Oskar's parents
What are you think happened with Oskar's parentes? Of course the mom probably suffered a lot, but I want anything more specific.
Example, does mon and dad back together? Or probably the mom became ill so sad?
Ultimately, what are you think about Oskar's parentes?
(sorry if already existis another topic about this, I can not look)

Re: What happened with Oskar's parents
I think Oskar's mom would be the type to blame Oskar's disapearence on his father. I don't think they would get back together. JAL's RIL father drowned in the lake he lived close to, many years later. And his mother still lives in her apartment in Blackeberg, so I guess that is what would happen to Oskar's parents too

And Oskar? Will he back to review the mother? at least once?intrige wrote:I think Oskar's mom would be the type to blame Oskar's disapearence on his father. JAL also ran away from home in real life?
Re: What happened with Oskar's parents
I donno of Oskar would ever come back to see how his mother is doing. Maybe, when she is very very old. But from what I know JAL didn't run away IRL.

Re: What happened with Oskar's parents
There is no good way forward for either parent. Both will wonder, likely for the rest of their lives, what happened to their son. The police interviews will conclude Oskar has been taken away by whomever this person was who did the terrible slaughter at the pool house. But they have no leads on who this might be and it would appear that no further evidence is going to be found. There would be high concern that such a fate, a repeat of the slaughter, would befall the young boy as well. The 'Ritual Killer' has of course been removed; the police took him away from the apartment basements. But the bath house laughter occurs afterwards, so there will remain an unresolved concern whether they got the right man or more likely an unresolved concern that the deceased 'Ritual Killer' was not acting alone.
What could either parent do? They could blame the other for mistakes and misses they've each made over the years or within the last month. But neither will have any means of finding Oskar or of knowing whether their son is still alive.
I doubt this would bring them back together. It would be one more wound in their broken relationship.
There have been several fanfics that delve into what happens to the parents. Some have the parents getting back together - which is a good scenario for a fanfic to explore.
Would Oskar ever return? I do think so, but only to spy on mother or father. Oskar has lived all his life with his mother; he has a great attachment for her. At the age of 12, she is the one who has always been there for him. Although the novel is of a good size, its events transpire in a period of but several weeks. His gained relationship with Eli will be strong but this cannot cause him to turn his back entirely on the rearing relationship that he has lived in all his life. Even if he were to not return physically for a long while, his thoughts about her would continue. So I would not be surprised to find he has stopped by to check on her. But to approach her ever again such that they meet - I do not think this will happen.

but the first scene in the book the police has found the driving of the moving truck.gkmoberg1 wrote:There is no good way forward for either parent. "The driver was informed of the events, of whom he had had in his truck. His eyes widened, he looked down again at the letters on the page." - What will the police say?
And Tommy also knew that Eli is a vampire. And when he was taken for Staffan he probably said something.
The 'Ritual Killer' lived in the apartment next to Oskar. He was a little girl in the moving truck. Gösta also may have spoken about what he saw in the night that Jocke died. And Tommy speaking who was Eli. The police just connect the dots.
probably yes. but I think he at least any sign he was alive.gkmoberg1 wrote:Would Oskar ever return? I do think so, but only to spy on mother or father. Re: What happened with Oskar's parents
Yes, the police have might accumulate all these facts.
- There was a child, a girl, in the light truck that moved the 'Ritual Killer' to Blackeberg;
- Gösta saw a child hide under the bridge;
- The children at the bath house saw a child commit the terrible slaughter;
- Likely a child's footprints are found in the 'Ritual Killers' bathroom following the death of Lacke;
- Lacke had informed the police that a child assaulted Virginia.
- Tommy might inform the police of the sale of blood to a girl.
- Tommy might inform the police that he knows Oskar had a girl friend.
But what rational explanation could there be that a child committed the acts in the bath house? And Tommy's information would be suspect, given his condition and upon finding what substances he was abusing in the basement. Gösta may never tell anyone anything. And Lacke and Virginia are both now dead.
There's not that much that is solid here that is going to at all lead the police in a reasonable direction.
And what if one of the detectives were to conjecture that the child was a ... vampire? That is a little hard to suggest in a professional manner. I should think the person making such a claim would be the target, then, of ridicule, snickering and perhaps the occasional gift of garlic cloves on their desk
... sounds like a good fanfic though. Oh, but wait, it is... of a sort.

Re: What happened with Oskar's parents
I've had the same thoughts about Oskar vis à vis his parents. He would always wonder what happened to them, how they were managing. And he would feel guilt for the grief he would know he had caused them.gkmoberg1 wrote:Even if he were to not return physically for a long while, his thoughts about her would continue. I've toyed with the idea that this would haven been what ultimately made Oskar approach Stefan and Karin in Barcelona. Stefan grew up on Rådmansö, the same place where Oskar's father lived. Plausibly Stefan would have spoken with a similar dialect as Oskar's father, and this combined with the unresolved feeling of guilt would have made Oskar approach Stefan in the hopes of learning something about his parents.
It is quite well covered in LtODD that the police never did connect the dots. Only Karin did, but she kept tight about it, and was ridiculed by her colleagues the only time she revealed her suspicions to them.ElisLove wrote:The police just connect the dots.

I still not read the LTODD. but is very easy for connect the dots. maybe the police just do not want to believe.metoo wrote:It is quite well covered in LtODD that the police never did connect the dots. Yes, that would be the reason. A rather reasonable one, I might add.ElisLove wrote:maybe the police just do not want to believe.
