Re: Brazil Bluray

The link is to something that looks for all the world to me like a Brazilian version of Amazon.

Re: New TV adaptation ordered by Showtime

This is one of the areas where the 2010 (or so) remake of the 1976 movie "Carrie" exceeded the original for today's audiences. Back in the day, there were no cells, tablets, wifi - in fact, most common people couldn't even afford consumer movie cameras. In Moretz' Carrie, just before she snapped and...

Re: What makes a vampire?

The novel spends quite a while in more than one passage examining Haakan's internal weather, and a good deal of that weather revolves around Eli. A couple of things I seem to remember (am I wrong?): he referred to Eli as his "beloved", and his postmortem monstrosity sought her out. I'm thinking some...

Re: Aged Eli?

In the basement scene where Eli appears as an older version of herself, I don't think that's Leandersson on the floor with an older face digitally superimposed. I think it's the older actress herself.

Re: Did anyone else like LMI better as a film?

"Little girl" was a better insult than "piggy" not simply because it's more thematic but because it's more realistic. Bullying is often gendered and sexualized. There might be a couple of things to mind here. One is that LTROI's "piggy" might be more than you think because this isn't the Anglospher...

Re: Aged Eli?

During the "bli mig lite" scene, just from memory it's possible an older voice says it just once, kinda breathy, kinda softly crying. It'd be hard to tell, at least with hearing like mine. What metoo is talking about is in the moment or two immediately after Eli drops to all fours to lick the blood ...

Re: Did anyone else like LMI better as a film?

I haven't seen LMI, but I enjoyed your analysis. Even more, I enjoyed your sharings about your personal growth. It ain't LTROI, that's a fact, but it still rated highly enough on IMDB and it passes the Grumpy Old A**H*** muster as a different way of interpreting the kind of reality laid out in the ...

Re: I'm like you

So, my question stands: if turned Oskar were to go down that road, would she still love him? Could she? Would he still love her? Depends, Eli probably won't have a problem with Oskar taking revenge upon bullies, but indulging in carnage for carnage's sake would probably push Eli away. Novel Eli, at...

Re: I'm like you

And who swooped in and saved Elias while he was being menaced by another kid's psycho knife-wielding older brother at the village skinny-dipping pond? Oh, wait, that never happened that we know of. Can't talk too much about what life for Elias had been like, but it seems likely that he and Oskar ar...

Re: I'm like you

In that case, your Oskar is probably always going to be different from mine. I am far more heavily influenced by the movie that I'd already seen a few dozen times before running across the novel. I'm not wrong, and you're not right, we're just looking at different representations of the same thing.
