new infected

Re: new infected
Book Eli had dark brown eyes, so charcter wise it wasn't very important. BUT in the basement scene where Oskar turnes on the lights? It is a pretty fair closeup of Eli, and his pupils going from big round, to cat like, to normal small pupils again. I think that scene, effect, the cat like stare, is the reason TA decided to make Lina wear blue contacts. He wanted to show Eli's animalistic pupils. And also the reason why Eli repeated Oskar's name in the dark, because he was hungry. It might show that too, from the pupils shifting. So yeah, that's why. Well, most of us think that is why at least.

Marok! Welcome to the WTI forum. You are sooo infected! I look forward to more of your observations.

Re: new infected
If that's the reason, to have the effect on the pupils better noticeable, it's still quite a lot of effort they put into just to achieve this. Especially on Linas side, having to wear these contacts all the time ...intrige wrote:Book Eli had dark brown eyes, so charcter wise it wasn't very important. Thank you.dongregg wrote:Marok! Welcome to the WTI forum. You are sooo infected! I look forward to more of your observations.
By now i pretty much have my own interpretion built up from both my own observations and things that other people pointed out or hinted at.
That's just great about this movie, there's sooo much to explore and see, hidden details and things being hinted at, stylistic devices and camera work. It also invites to think further, behind what's visible on screen.
Most of that stuff, or all of it, has already been discussed here somewhere, sometime. For sure.
Now thinking about it, there is one other scene that I'd like to hear some opinions on: The second time Oskar visits his father and he is being let down by him, he then looks at that little cardboard box with Elis message "att fly är livet, att dröja döden" on it and decides to leave, get back home. Is he really hitchhiking there?! Doesn't look like being his mother in the car nor does it look like a taxi. Back at his place he's heading straight to Eli. I was expecting his mother to be infuriated, but the next scene with them they're both happily brushing their teeth.
What do you think? Or is it a common practice in Sweden to be hitchhiking?
Re: new infected
Yes it would be a lot of work just for a small effect. But that's all we got. :/
Oh and yeah, the hiking. In the book Oskar hiked, a lady drove him to.. uuh.. a place close to Blackeberg, where he took the train to Blackeberg, walked to his apartment. and straight to Eli. They ended up fighting, a lot. Anyhow, Oskar slept over, and when he awoke Eli was in the bathroom, he got up and left. After peeing in the sink ofc. XD I guess he came home about the time he was expected to. He did call his dad on a telephone box somehwere along the way but I don't remember much of it. His mother got mad a few days later. His father finally told her, and she was scared and asked Oskar where he was, and he didn't answer. Oskar seemed to have a fever and soon forgot what was going on when Oskar asked for a bedtime story.
That's it. I think. I just remmeber from the top of my head, I might be wrong.

Re: new infected
I originally thought this place would go on for about a year, maybe 18 months. That would have put the end in about December - of 2010. Yet, here it is 5 and a half years later. The numbers of posts per day may be slowing down, but the number of people who come here month over month has been pretty stable for over a year. I keep of track of the usage statistics, and being from a technical background, I graph them:Marok wrote:Having read about less activity and fewer users especially in JALs Seasons greetings, I decided to voice myself instead of just quietly lurking around in here any longer.
As a great source of information, not just about LTROI, with interesting discussions and nice people this place should be kept alive to be explored by the continual arrival of new infected in the future.

The number of unique visitors has been slowly but steadily decreasing, but the number of visits and the number of hits have been pretty constant. There was big spike in December of 2012 - I like to think it because people were showing up to see John's annual Season's Greetings.
The primary purpose of this site is to provide a landing place for newly Infected, and to preserve the discussions for all the future Infected. A few more trickle in each month, just as you did. This story will always by laying in wait for the unwary, and it will continue to drop upon their backs in the dark, just as did ours.
Welcome.
woof
...the story derives a lot of its appeal from its sense of despair and a darkness in which the love of Eli and Oskar seems to shine with a strange and disturbing light.

Well, this clears it up. Thank you very much! I guess in the deleted scenes we get a glimpse of that fighting part you mentioned there.intrige wrote:Oh and yeah, the hiking. At some point I'll have read the book as well. I want to. But for the time being I'm fine with just the movie.

You should read it, it can be a wish for the new year

Re: new infected
It seems most of the forum members have read the novel and been enriched by the experience. I haven't read it. I stick with the film, with Wolfie's Swedish script of the film, and with the short story, "Let the Old Dreams Die." I've watched the film many times since I first saw it in March 2013. I watch it alone and with anyone else I can round up. It's a kind of total immersion for me in the cinema experience. I don't suggest that anyone not read the novel, but the Lina/Eli and Kåre/Oskar experience is a very rich one. However, I have read the published script of the Jack Thorne play and look forward to seeing it with some other forum members in NY. To me, that is a measured and reasonable way of enlarging of my engagement with the LTROI world. I think I may be encouraged to read the novel if Eli shows up at the evening performance we're attending. Since in real life, Eli does not look like Lina Leanderson, I must depend on other forum members to identify her in the audience. Er, if she does show up, I hope feeds before the show. Otherwise, one of us might not return from intermission.Marok wrote:...At some point I'll have read the book as well. I want to. But for the time being I'm fine with just the movie.

Re: new infected
For me, reading the novel enhanced LTROI experience
and assited in gaining a deeper understanding of characters and their motivations.
The movie is only half of the story.
