Things People Were Saying, Not Translated...

Post by a_contemplative_life » Tue Sep 08, 2009 1:01 am

Was anyone able to decipher what people were saying during the following scenes:

Hakan lecturing Eli after Jocke's death

The guy yelling from upstairs after Lacke's death

Thanks

There was a thread at IMDB where some Swedish speakers posted what they could make out of Håkan berating Eli, but it was mostly just a few sentence fragments that didn't really add anything to anyone's understanding scene, IIRC.
...the story derives a lot of its appeal from its sense of despair and a darkness in which the love of Eli and Oskar seems to shine with a strange and disturbing light.

I have an observation not linked to translation;

what sort of conversation were Joke Lacke and the others having in the restaurant; it was disjointed, bizarre was this the correct translation. You had the guy with the beard talking about rattlesnakes and if anybody has been bitten - or were they all drunk. F===ing wildest conversation i have heard in a long time! but compelling watching them take randomly - maybe I missed something?

Read the theatrical subtitles in the Subtitle Comparison section of my web page. It may make more sense to you then.

Yeah, read wolf's transcript, it might clear up some things. I can also add:

It's very tough to hear something, but the words I think I can hear from Håkan arguing with Eli after Jocke's death are:
Håkan: "What happens when they find him? Huh?" (Vad händer när de hittar honom? Va?)
Eli: "You know that I have to [Chimp's note: eat]!" (Du vet ju att jag måste!)
Håkan: [unhearable]
Eli: "But you fix that now." (Men du fixar det nu.)
Håkan: "How the hell am I going to do that?" (Hur i helvete kan/ ska jag göra det?)

Then I can't hear the rest. But they're obviously arguing about what Eli did, or more like HOW (s)he did it and that Håkan now has to cover her mess.
--
As for the neighbour banging on the floor, it sounds like he's shouting:
*banging*
"I don't want to hear any more noise from you down there, do you hear that?" (Jag vill inte höra något mer oväsen där nere, hör ni det?)
*banging*
"Do you hear that down there? Stop it!" (Hör ni det där nere? Sluta!)
*cursing*, sort of like "For fucks sake!" (Förbannades jävlar!)

As for the discussion about rattlesnakes all of a sudden, yep, he just suddenly changes subject and asks "Who the hell has ever been bitten by a rattlesnake?"

Wow, thanks for this, Chimp. It really adds another dimension to these scenes to have an idea as to what the muffled dialogue was.
