Yes, from what little I've gotten about the story from reading the posts, this was my thought as well. It makes sense; Stefan and Karin have nothing to lose at this point. And of course, in typical JAL fashion, we are left to decide what happened when the adult couple caught up with the young vampire couple (it is so kewl to finally be able to write that about Eli and Oskar: vampire couple :D). ::looking into crystal ball:: I predict...many insightful fan fictions in the future.

Yes, there is a parallel between Stefan and Oskar in that both are about to die. Also Karin could be ready to let the old dreams die. A former police inspector, head of the Blackeberg massacre investigation until she retired. Still obsessed by it. Karin even suggested to her colleagues the only thing explaining all the facts in this case was a vampire, but no one listened. It iwas Karin's theory that ELi was about to kill Stefan in Karlstad.
Then there is the photo from Barcelona with Eli and Oskar in the background, showing a happy family of parents and two kids, and at last the postcard from Stefan & Karin "Let the old dreams die. We're dreaming new ones. Thank you for everythig, dearest friend!". So the suggestiuons are all over the story. :)

Of course, I couldn't resist reading the spoilers here for longer that a minute or two either. :) What struck me is how quickly Oskar was willing to be turned after the train ride. It startled me at first, but then I realized that I had kind of forgotten Oskar's dark side, much more evident in the book than in the film. My FF has, with a few exceptions, pretty much not dealt with this side of Oskar. JAL has not forgotten it however. ;) The more I thought about it, the more sense it made that he would change his mind so quickly. He had just been through a near-death experience, which happened because of the indifference of the adult world around him, been saved by the one he loves, and had abandoned everthing he was familiar with for his entire life. In retrospect, it seem logical that he would, and could, make such a decision quickly. When weighing the cost of the deaths he would cause in the future against his love for Eli and his desire to be with her forever, his decision was a no-brainer. :(I am really looking forward to the English release of this!

We never stop reading, although every book comes to an end, just as we never stop living, although death is certain. (Roberto Bolaño)

I rarely encounter stories conveying so many different meanings depending on the background of the reader.
The story starts with the narrator wants to speak about a great love. On the surface it is the love between Stefan and Karin, but you never really can distinguish between Stefan/Karin, Eli/Oskar and John/Mia. To me they're an unseperable unit throughout the story.

If you've never read LTROI it's still an OK story, but if you know LTROI it of course will take on a whole new meaning. And if you in addition know a bit of John's background, you will get those hints too, and I feel the whole framework of the story just disappears and the outward action in the story takes on the shape of a string of symbols. It's incredibly complex.

Aj, John and Mia :D On Buldbaggen (That Swedish award..) JAL won for best screen play. Tomas took the award cause JAL couln't make it. TA Said something about a note from JAL that he had left at home. But one thing he remembered from it was that: To his wife (Mia) that he , ah what was it again.. Something about that he let his right one in 30 (More or less) years ago.. And the whole croud was like: Aaaawww... :D Have you guys seen that? (Those of you that understand Swedish?)

Seems to me, having read the spoilers here, that Wolfie is the fan fiction author who came closest to imagining Oskar's turning as JAL did. (http://let-the-right-one-in.com/fancontent/ff/letters). Maybe there's a psychic link between JAL and him?

Yes, you may be right - I guess this is the only ff where they mix blood? But it also helps knowing the story well and a thing or two about JAL :)
I've seen another FF where Eli turns Oskar after one or two days in Karlstad, but that was by biting. You also had some hefty blood exchange in Karlstad, we had to wait a long time for it, but when it first came it was by force. You seem to be more religious inclined than JAL, though :)

And - I'm relieved it never came to Gasan's "Love Epithaph" and Sauvin's "Oskar at 40".
