Soundtrack Question

Post by Wolfchild » Sun Jul 05, 2009 6:19 pm

I haven't listened to the soundtrack - except for what is presented in the film. I have a question for those of you who have:

If you had not seen the film, would the sound track evoke the same emotions in you?

Or are the songs so inextricably linked to the various scenes in the film that you cannot separate your feelings for the film from your feelings for the music?
...the story derives a lot of its appeal from its sense of despair and a darkness in which the love of Eli and Oskar seems to shine with a strange and disturbing light.

Some of the songs such as "Eli and Oscar", "Eli's Theme", "Oskar in Love", "Then we are together", "The Father" and "Let the Right One in" are so good that you would definitely be moved by them. Of course this is assuming you can appreciate instrumental or classical music.

If you've watched the movie the songs will definitely invoke a stronger emotional response since you can visualize the emotional scenery with the music.

I don't consciously link the score up to the movie at all, when listening to it. It is just the beauty of the music itself that makes me swoon over. I am a synesthetic and I perceive music with all my senses, if it allows me to.

I agree with the above, but there again I've heard the music more times than I've seen the film so I don't especially link the music to the scenes they were in.

I almost refrained from listening the soundtrack in public, because I still get gnat's piss in my eyes everytime I even think of that wonderful music.

I did not listen to classical music at all, but I can appreciate it. This soundtrack is the exception to this rule, its the only classical pice of music I have listened to all the way through.

And yes, it does emote the same feelings in me as the film does. Probably more so when on my ipod, as there is no other sounds to distract me - I am literally transported into the scenes which I relate the music to.

I say when i listen to it, as i have had to remove it, otherwise I'd be committed :D

Exactly the same for me, I listen to a lot of different music, but classical has never been my thing. I think the reason I like it so much is beacuse it reminds me of the movie in my head :)

I listened to the score before ever seeing the film. The music is what made me decide to watch the film; up until then I wasn't sure I wanted to see it because I felt so strongly about the book. Even now after seeing the movie I find that this is one soundtrack that stands on its own as a beautiful and emotional collection of music. It makes me think of the story, not the film. If I close my eyes I don't necessarily see scenes from the film, but I do think of Oskar and Eli.
