Who loves Abby?
In the LTROI sections, the bulk of the attention seems to be given over to Eli, even though the bulk of the novel and movie centre around Oskar and his POV. We're still trying to figure out why this might be beyond the obvious fact that Lina Leandersson's impersonation of her was done to such a nicety, and that Leandersson herself is... well... cute.
I can remember only one poster suggesting that Abby was his world. The majority of us hate the movie, or love it, but we don't seem to have any particular feelings towards Abby herself. Does anybody love her? Does anybody actually hate her? Why?
Is there nobody in this forum who thinks Abby is... well... cute?

Great topic sauvin! I’m interested to see where this topic is going to go.
Like many here, I really truly wanted to love LMI, Abby and Owen. The truth is that I felt nothing for Abby and sadly made no connection with either character. That said I neither love nor hate Abby.

i'm with you there. I just don't feel the connection there as i felt for Eli. Lina plays Eli very well and the Eli in the novel is so fascinating to read and i like him... her... him... err.... her... him... Ah you know what i mean.jonesboy27aka wrote:Great topic sauvin! Run, and you might live.
Stay, and you might die.
However, nothing is certain.

Sorry Suave, the best I can do for Chloe's Abby is sympathy [or is that a form of love?]
Lina's Eli *is* book Eli now, for me; and apparently for JAL/TA too.

Re: Who loves Abby?
As much as I love the laser-shooting Abby animation, I think Eli is a more developed and complex character. If Let Me In had been a novel instead of a film, I do not think that the character of Abby would have really worked.

Re: Who loves Abby?
I also find Abby a sympathetic character, but Owen is even more so. But there's no deep emotional connection with Abby as there is with Eli in both the novel and the film (LTROI).
Chloe definitely is cute, when she's cleaned up. But not pretty in that other-worldly way, like Lina.

Re: Who loves Abby?
I would respect her if she was truly evil, but love? no. She's just...not Eli, doesn't have that grace or sorrow or joy or mystery that makes you think that she's seen blood splattered on snow or that she could walk on freshly fallen snow without leaving footprints.
"When is a monster not a monster? Oh, when you love it."
