Why people insist that Eli is using Oskar

Oh, bullocks. We're ALL full of it. It's OBVIOUS! Should have seen it from the start.

Eli is just using Oskar for his knowledge of what's out there for new puzzles to play with. That's what really attracted her to him to begin with, and his showing her the Morse Code sheet clinched the deal for her. She'll put up with any amount of eris and nonsense, so long as he keeps producing new puzzles for her to play with. She'll even kill for those puzzles! And when he's outgrown them, or can't show her new stuff anymore, well, you can just start calling him Oskar Bengtsson.

How exacly are Oskar useful to Eli? He is just a kid, and have to resources to speak of and can't serve as her helper for years . Can he actually be used if there is nothing for him to be used for.

Unless...

Eli genuinly like having him around, because his presence make her feel better about herself, because they are friends, perhaps more than that. Eli might be addicted to Oskar by this point and his presence is neccesary for Eli to continue living. He is useful as he is just as neccesary for Eli as blood. The same is true in reverse of course, Oskar can't live without Eli, that is why he gives up his future in society in order to come with Eli. In a way, they used eachother .

If Eli is using Oskar to satisfy her need for love, it could be said she is using him (and vice versa). It could also be argued that love is a selfish act as, even though it is directed towards another, it's ultimately to satisfy ones own need. It that usury?
I have little doubt that Eli loved Oskar, in the hesitant, tentative way children first experience it, but love none the less.
And she has my permission do whatever it takes to hold on to that love, even if that means a few dismembered bullies are left scattered around the pool house to prompt Oskar to leave with her. That's clever love.

Why didn't she take them out earlier?
- because Oskar would have stayed in Blackeberg, if fact he would have had more reason to stay.
That didn't fit Eli's plans for Oskar. You don't survive for hundreds of years by being innocent and dumb, bumbling your way through life. You learn how to get what you want by any means available.

that is very true. I don't picture Eli as a type that would wipe out anyone just for picking on him, but would kill if they tried to kill Oskar. Eli did however encourage Oskar to stand up for himself.

Oskar has every little status with his peer and your girl friend can not fight your battle. No twelve year old boy want to go to school and hear how your girl friend has to protect him.

Eli and Oskar use each other. I prefer support one another. That is what I see in their relationship. Supporting, accepting, caring for each other. To me there love has no limits. It is pure. There is balance and neither of them gives more than the other. There both equal.
