Oskar's Parents

Post by WOOGAMES » Wed Feb 08, 2012 9:44 pm

I'm afraid I don't remember, does the novel ever give the names of Oskar's parents? We learn that Oskar's father's name start's with a "P" during their game of 'tic tac toe' - when Oskar won a game he circled it and wrote an "O" in the middle, while his father wrote a "P"

Thanks

LOL yeah Oskar's father is named Erik, Oskar's mother is just. Mom.. Never really named. But in the LTROI swedish movie her name gets to be Yvonne. From Tommy's mother who was named Yvonne, but since they weren't there in the movie..

Hmm... perhaps he wrote "p" on the tic tac toe games for papa or something along those lines. Thanks for replying.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! :D

In the novel, we learn the father's name here:
JAL, LTROI. Saturday 24 October (page 62 [English Kindle edition]) wrote:
Oskar took out the ring and read the inscription: Erik 22/4 1967.

Yes, P is for pappa.

Because of dad's drinking problems.

Exactly, Oskar's father acted (to say the least) immaturely - I believe that's why there's the scene when... Oskar visits his father; Oskar explains (mentally) how his father would react the same way when he had company and became drunk; he would become the "werewolf" would walk into Oskar's room "needing to talk" and would sometimes get himself angry - when Oskar decides to go back to Blackeberg (in the middle of the night) and calls his father at Norrtälje (to explain why he ran away,) how does his father respond? He starts yelling about how he has to have his own life and be allowed to do as he pleases in his home.
