Haven't professed my love in a while....
Well, the way I imagine it, Eli and Oskar are happy forever being vampires, working seasonally at a blood-bank with poor book-keeping skills.

Little Lina is SO Adorable! Perfect choice for the role of Eli!Sumsi wrote:I just stumbled across the following Elina shot through google image. For some reason I've never seen it before so I wanted to share it:

Re: I Love Eli!
It is interesting that there is a 21 page "I Love Eli" thread, but no "Oskar" counterpart. (I searched, maybe unsuccessfully) Obviously there are shared sympathetic aspects to both characters, it is a plot device, but Eli seems to engender more expressions of love. Perhaps, due to Eli being orphaned and totally alone versus Oskar still having a tie to his family and his time? Eli can rescue Oskar from bullies and loneliness while he can only rescue her from being alone? Eli doesn't get presents? We pity Eli more because he/she is more dangerous to us with his/her super-human strength than Oskar with his knife and we need to negate our fear? Eli is condemned and Oskar is still free to choose?
It is not that there are not expressions of sympathy for Oskar, there are. Why is there a difference for you, if any?

Maybe we superimpose ourselves on Oskar, a lot of us have experienced bullying and rejection and we would love to have a true friend/true love like Eli, someone who loves for us for just us (and who is a vampire protector, who rips peoples heads off)

I guess my view of it is that although Oskar has it bad, there is nothing about him, as a person, that would prevent him from achieving happiness, assuming his circumstances change. Eli, however, has been trapped in an impossible circumstance through no fault of her own, and there is really no 'out' for her. Physiologically she is not a normal human being in any sense of the word. I think the realization of this tends to engender greater sympathy for her.

I was thinking, "Poor Oskar. There is no thread for you." Maybe, I shall start one? but then feel bad about Hakan, so make one for him, then Virginia, then Lacke... etc. so on and so forth.
I do feel that your statements are true. That Eli is more alone (from the start) than Oskar ever was.
