Sequel?

Post by argoe4 » Tue Nov 13, 2012 1:56 am

Who thinks they should make a sequel to let the right one in, even though the book doesn't have a sequel. maybe the movie could be different from the book. Tell me what you guys think, what are are your ideas. I really, really, really just want new material about Oskar and Eli, whether it's a movie, book, short stories, skits, plays, I don't care. I just want something new.

And about the sequel.. Think about it.
Oskar and Eli would probably live happily ever fater forever young, like we all want them to. (most of us at least). Snuggle in the bathtub or in a cave, get out when needing to, for a drink. Amd get back in again,, always in hiding. Always alone, at least together. Now that would not make a good movie i think, or book. I won't even consider oskar growing up, them leaving each other and Eli becoming lonely again. Cause that's heatbreaking..
I like the book and movie as it is (I do not prefere Let me in I'm telling ya) So yeh. The epiologe did it for me :)

Short reply:

No.

I agree with intrige in that between LTROI and LTODD O&E (must) have lived essentially uneventful lives, which would make for a very thin and still rather boring book.

But let us think about a sequel anyway. To create an interesting story, some other characters have to be involved. But what roles might they play, that wasn't already played by Håkan, Jocke, Gösta, Lacke and Virginia in LTROI? Of course, other magical creatures might be introduced, but that would change the novel's universe in a manner I wouldn't want.

So, to conclude, I'm very happy that John Ajvide Lindquist seems to agree on this, and keeps writing new stuff instead of unending series of sequels!

But from the beginning Eli was just Eli. Nothing. Anything. And he is still a mystery to me. John Ajvide Lindqvist

They'd have to recast Kare and Lina, and I can't see anyone else playing them.

I agree with the others, esp. metoo.
I don't really like that book trailer, the taglines kind of imply Eli is just after blood.

This^^

Although that wouldn't affect a book's characters, lol. The OP said he wanted more material, he didn't specify that it had to be a film.

But no, I don't want endless sequels, because the beauty of the story will become diluted and then it will just be another 'Twilight". Surely nobody here wants that?

However, you can read more about Eli and Oskar in the wonderful fanfiction section on this site. I haven't read a bad one yet, and I have read some excellent ones.

I think I would prefer to keep the "warm, fuzzy feeling" that I got with the original. Too often a sequel will fall flat, and then we have series in other movies (such as James Bond) which, IMHO, should have been killed off years ago. I believe that LTROI (the original) is about as good as it could ever possibly get.
